i agree mickey when these phones cost so much they shouldnt come like this

when they do break nokia takes its time with services and it generally leaves you very dissapointed and wastes alot of time

can you imagine a car thats bonnet was falling off , or a fridge with a door that didnt close properley , they wouldnt be allowed to sell them , i love nokia but they need to sort this out

if i was an apple worker id be using this all i could , i mean cmon it dosent look good does it nearly everyone is having the same issue in the same corner of the phone from across the globe , at the moment it looks like a bad design and not a bad bunch of headsets

Buz... Your top pic doesn't show the front cover, it's a pic of the plastic mid-band that has the coloured strip in it, secured by four screws and a couple of clips, tightening that has no effect on the way the front cover clips in... I've just tried it.

Although, I find that by loosening the screw nearest the rogue corner, the gap can be widened a little further, giving better access... which may be useful if the only solution is to glue it... Or maybe use some double-sided sticky-pads?

Good Old Nokia... Never a dull moment!

EDIT: No sweat Buz... I know you weren't having a go! :)

Mine seems to be fine (and I've dropped it twice) but you had me panicking for a moment! Also a made in hungary model - bought from nokia retail. I would of thought it would be replaced under waranty, asap - rather than messing with home repairs.

You could try pressing your nail into the join on all four corners... You may find that the top right corner permits it fairly easily... I'd be interested to know, as judging from the design of the casing, I have a nasty feeling that this possible 'gap' will be on all 5800's.

actually I have no nails!! :) but looking at it side on against a contrasting colour there's a sliver of space both left and right at the top - none at the bottom. Though nothing as dramatic as has been shown above. And I would imagine within design tolerances. So if i forced it I suspect a gap may appear.

Trust me, it would :(

Although I really didnt have to try. Going by the pressure I put on it, I can't see how this would not develop over time.

I'm going to try gluing it at some point. I'm pretty sure there will not be a fix from Nokia, so this will be by far the best solution. And maybe sooner rather than later, I really don't want dust under the screen.

Probably best not to force it, just keep your fingers X'd that it doesn't open up at all...

I don't see how this gap can be avoided, looking at the casing and the disassembly instructions, there is a clip on each bottom corner + two further clips/securing lugs across the base + a further two clips on each side of the phone... And NONE AT ALL on the top corners or across the top of the phone!

NOKIA... Ya DOPES!

P.S. maclondon... I've just been enjoying reading your blog about the 5800... Nice work! :)

In January 26, 2009
Nokia celebrated an industry milestone at its mobile phone manufacturing facility in Komarom, Hungary "
the production of its 500 millionth phone from a single factory.

In his address to Komarom employees,
Nokia Chief Executive Officer Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, praised staff on their achievement and dedication to quality.

Established in 1999, the Komarom facility manufactures mobile phones for the European,
Middle East and African markets.
During the past 10 years the Komarom factory has produced many
of Nokia's most popular models including the best selling Nokia 2760,
the highly popular Nokia 6300 as well as Nokia's latest music device the Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic.

The 500 millionth device produced in Komarom was the Nokia N79 in silver.

The info from mobile burn

*Shoore they shud have the capability qualification and not make such

On my blue 5800 there doesnt appear to be a gap at all but when the backlight of the screen is on, I can just see a every so slight light leak so seems alright. But looking at the photos I cant believe the shoddy workmanship. For a big leader in mobile technology and phones, you'd think they'd nail build quality.
