Battery Life

I'd read quite a few negative comments about battery life so thought I'd give my opinion and experience. I started today with 100% charge. I took the slow train to Euston at 8am. I checked my emails, checked some websites for about 15mins using 3g. I then plugged the headphones in and sat down to watch the first hour of a two part film. Watched that, then watched a 30min animé episode. Total watching video at this point was over 90mins. Battery meter was showing no change. I then listened to about 4 or 5 tracks on the underground journey to London Bridge. Once there sent a few texts and checked mail etc. Throughout work day I took 2 calls and made 2 myself. I sent 10 text messages. I got back on the train at Euston at 5pm. I again did some web surfing over 3g. Then sat down to watch another 30min animé episode. I received 3 texts and 2 mms during this episode. I got home at approx 6pm, looked at the battery bar and it had 4 bars left. Nearly 3hrs of video and music playback. About an hour of surfing. About an hour on calls and texts/mms and STILL just under half battery. That's pretty ****ing impressive IMHO.

Mmm, shame the battery meter doesn't work very well. I bet if you restarted the phone it would be much lower.

Having said that, I still find the battery reasonably impressive considering what I put it through.

Having learnt that trick on the N95 mate, I turned the phone on and off and the 4 bars resulted. ;) I've no reason not to believe that reading as charging back up to 100% didn't take all that long.

Ah, fair enough ;)

Mine doesn't seem to be that good, but Im impressed none the less.

You have to wonder how much better it would be with an OLED screen though. that would save a LOT of power.

I'm getting 2 days on mine whereas I was having to charge my N96 EVERY day when I went to bed. And I'm probably using the 5800 quite a bit more too...

I still have charge from late saturday evening. I have browsed the web quite abit and watched Quantum of Solace all the way thorugh. Also have my phone set to retrieve email every 30 mins. Phone reports 3 bars after a power cycle.

I heard you need to charge your Nokia 5800 for at least 8 hours for the first time charge to take advantage of the full battery life.

I thought that was a urban myth. I just charged mine and when i looked 3 hours lkater it was fully charged so i unplugged it and played around with it. Im still on my first charge from Saturday so i guess i will do a overnight charge if this is true.

It is a myth, modern batteries no longer work that way.
