Firmware question on NAM 5800

I own a 5800 NAM Version (RM-428 under the battery), but the phone reports it is a RM-356 (*#0000#), with firmware version 20.0.012.

I suspect that the seller (not official NOKIA STORE) updated the firmware with some European version, to sold it with the latest firmware at the time.
As I am in another country from where I bought the cell, a replacement is out of the question and I suspect the Warranty is voided by the changes made to the firmware.

I've already changed the product code to 0577454, (using the code written under the battery), and tried to update using NSU, but there was no new firmware available.

Does NSU use just the product code or also phone type, to check for newer versions?

How can I get the Original Firmware for NOKIA 5800 NAM, Type RM-428, code 0577454, (the latest 20.2.014 or another one for this phone) so I can Flash it and restore it to factory specifications?

You cannot put RM-356 firmware on a RM-428 handset, which means that your handset is not RM-428 regardless of what the sticker says. Following this logic you have a RM-356 and you cannot install RM-428 firmware on a RM-356.

I don't know how this has happened, at least you seem to have an original handset and not a clone, since NSU recognises it.

Use NaviFirm

Hi

You can get the firmware you require using Navifirm - google it.
You can then flash the phone with Phoenix.

If you can't figure it out, let me know and I'll try to help you.

You can change your product code on 5800 - do so at your own risk...

Change product code on Nokia 5800 / Debrand Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic

You can change your product CODE, however you cannot change your PRODUCT.

Putting a RM-428 product code on a RM-356 unit will achieve nothing. The firmwares are different and incompatible, flashing with NSU will simply not happen, attempts to flash with Phoenix will brick the phone.

I managed to extract the info below from the cell, using Phoenix.
Someone updated the firmware on this phone, because the product code belongs to a Red 5800, this one is BLACK!!
But there is something I don't quite understand.
This info, says tha tthe phone has WCDMA I/WCDMA V

I thought that the RM-365 uses WCDMA I/WCDMA VIII (Europe)
and the RM-428 uses WCDMA II/WCDMA V (Americas)

but this phone has one of each!!!

This info is being reported by the Firmware or the Hardware?
Also, is there a way to be absolutely sure, %100!!!!, about this phone's model?
Again, thanks for your time!!

I guess this is one where one of our engineers needs to step in.

Could it be possible that the only difference between the RM-356 and RM-428 is the frequency and revision on the rf chip? Thus dropping a euro firmware on a nam would simply break 3g or rf only, whereas the rest of the system would be stable?? It is simple to say it would brick it, but has anyone really bricked their 5800 yet by trying this? Granted, I wouldn't want to be the first to brick since I don't have the money lying around....yet.

Are there revision codes printed on the board? That would be your best bet. I have a 5800 NAM and when I have the battery lifted, I see the standard label RM-428, made in china... on the board itself however I see 10 04 L2; UMT . H1 0903 94V-0* ; 2JD-11

Surely manufacturer codes, etc... but might could help identify your product?

Ok, I checked under the battery, and this is the info I have:
13 03 L2;
UMT . H1
0903 94V-0* ; 2JD-11

Almost the same! I don't know what the difference mean, but it looks authentic!!

Well, I managed to restore my Nokia 5800 NAM to factory settings! Using JAF, I flashed it with the firmware corresponding to the RM-428. Now I have the NAM with the correct firmware, 20.2.014
Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions!!
