GPS on 5800 - Slow Acquisition

Just acquired a 5800xm on O2 in the UK, but am struggling to get the GPS to pick anything up. I presume it's not where I live, etc as I have a BlackBerry with GPS plus a 6210 Navigator that acquire almost instantly.

I've checked the internet settings (i.e. it's definitely able to get A-GPS). The Location apps (specifically the one that can show satellite status) seem to show it's acquiring but not locking on.

Any hints or tips? Just it just take ages the first few times?

Thanks.

It does take a while to get a lock initially then after that it's very quick, mine is anyway.

make sure that the initial lock is made outdoors and away from buildings , in reasonably clear weather to speed things up

I can confirm the same, I actually often have them both at the same time with the N82 running Maps 3.0 and the 5800 usually gets a faster lock.

OK, thanks - must just take a while the first few times.

Unfortunately I can't seem to get v21 firmware yet (I'm on O2 in the UK) and don't really want to mess with product codes, etc.

No, it takes a while the VERY FIRST time, after that it's quite quick.

I notice you say you checked the internet settings, have you checked the positioning server settings?

Settings - Phone - Application settings - Positioning.

Check it's using assisted and integrated GPS under methods.

Check it's server address is supl.nokia.com in server address, and that the access point is right.
