What networks restrict firmware updates?

I know Orange do, have seen various reports of Orange 5800s stuck on V15 or worse.

How about T mobile? Does anyone have one from T mobile (especially from carphone warehouse or mobiles.co.uk) that's got their own firmware on it, or is restricted to anything under V20?

Prompt replies would be much appriciated!

The latest V21 is available for the following apparently branded product codes:

0581300: 5800 Orange UK BK Light
0586591: 5800 Orange UK BK Light with co-labels

0576524: 5800 RM-356 O2 UK R

0577187: 5800 RM-356 T-Mobile UK GB V2 (Red)

0585029: 5800 VF UK G_S B

0579272: 5800 Virgin UK R V2

That is quite surprising, given Nokia's past history with network branded firmware.

Looking at the list of codes there are quite a lot of network codes for which V21 is out, not just the generic ones. I don't want to clutter up this thread by posting them here because it's quite a long list.

V20 is the latest available for:

0585261: 5800 Orange UK GV color_BK
0577533: 5800 Orange UK GV R

0577089: 5800 VF UK B

Yes T-Mobile start up and shut down animations and the usual W'n'W as the default homepage.

That's all there is as far as branding on the phone. :)

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I must also add that t-mobile have removed the App. updater (or whatever it's called) and they don't supply the Device update information (not sure if others supply this).

Cheers

Send a message via MSN to Qualain
I was on the Vodafone Ireland Forum yesterday and they've only just released V20 for the 5800!

And I had to laugh at the following from a Vodafone Employee/Mod(the same one who let slip about the N97 mini)

'' I know these updates are available on the web but I wouldn't advise downloading them if they are not from Vodafone Ireland as they may damage your handsets and void the warranty. ''

Yes ok,if you use NSS to change your product code it does void warrenty, but to say that an official Nokia download will damage your handset is not exactly wise!

Just to throw a spanner in the works here.

I have a vanilla, 5800 red, code 0575581 phone which I received Thursday and I'm in th UK.

The Nokia site confirms that with the code on my phone an update is available (V21).

The firmware on the phone is V20. I have now tried every possible way to update to V21, including *#0000# and the latest download of NSU with no luck.

The sim card is Virgin, although I have also tried it with an Orange sim too and according to all reports as its a vanilla phone the sim should make no difference.

I have done a hard reset to set the phone back to its factory condition, still no luck.

I have tried disabling my anti virus program, still no luck.

There is no pin lock active on the phone.

No one at present can give me an explanation of why my phone will not update.

I'm getting that frustrated with it I'm thinking of offering a reward to someone who can get me the update.

So for those that are thinking "why can't I update mine" maybe you're having the same problem as me.

Should Nokia or someone tell me whats wrong I will pass this on to you all to keep you updated.

Regards

Dave
