Question Charging via USB

Why o why didn't Nokia enable the USB port for charging on 5800 XM??

It seems such a logical thing to do and do away with the standard charger connection.

My old 6500 classic used the micro USB as a charging connection!

Just I've now got three micro USB chargers at various locations that are now useless.

Is there a reasonable excuse for not using the USB connection?

There could be a thousand reasons. Electrical, design etc.

But I think the most logcal one they use is :

"USB Charging keeps the feature exlcusive to certain models. If they added it to their cheapest device, it'd no longer be a selling point on bigger devices.

I actually prefer it being seperate

Main reason is when I have it plugged into the computer its only for a few minutes

I don't really want it to charge for 5 mins I dont think its good for the battery

I normally let the battery run till its near empty then charge it up to full again

But like IJM has said just get the usb charger if you really want to charge it off a usb port

TieNN89,

Unlike older Nokia batteries, the newer Li-Ion mAH batterys responde better from small frequent charges. This actually helps the battery keep it's life and performace.

You should never let your Li-Ion battery run a full cycle.

Have a read here for more info:

That's the worst thing you can do on a Li-Ion battery mate.

You shouldn't let your battery run down and then charge it fully up. As this cycle will decrease the life and performace.

You should try to "top" it up when ever possible.

Obvisouly this isn't ideal for everyone, and millions do run it flat and re charge. But it's not ideal.
