E71 Disassembly?
Hi all. After carrying around my e71 in its Krussell Classic Case for the past 4 or so months I was shocked last week to see the number of scratches on the screen. It is always in its case, has been since I bought it (they came in the same box together) and the phone is babied like nobodies business. I've had tons of devices and never marred a screen because they're always in cases... Well, that doesn't seem to be good enough for the E71. I am simply horrified at how easy it is to scratch the E71's protective plastic cover and so it is now time to replace it and go for a screen protector on the new piece.
The replacement front cover came yesterday and I just wanted to check with you guys if anyone has taken their E71 apart to do this swap. Looking at the new cover it looks really simple. Two screws on the bottom below the battery and then clips that have to be lifted up and out at the top. As long as it is unscrewed and lifted from the bottom it looks pretty clean. Is there anything I should know? Double stick tape that could be a problem... any trouble getting the piece out? What about the keyboard. Mine still isn't seated perfectly from the factory (as I know many people's are). Is it going to be a pain to get back in and straight? I took a look on Youtube but didn't see a disassembly video. Any pointers and or a service manual would be much appreciated. Also, for all you E71 owners out there, use a screen protector. Case or no case, it doesn't matter. You'll start getting hair-line scratches all over the front of the machine even if you baby it. They may not bother everyone, but when the sun hits them they just tick me off. ;) |

the E71 is pretty simple however be aware of the volume keys etc when putting the new cover on as they can dislodge and cause a pain in getting them back in place

Thanks. That's the type of thing I was wondering. I'll keep an eye on those side buttons.

and also watch out for the keypad coming out of one of its securing clips, it wont sit flat if it does! |

yeah man, i found that holding it that side down after putting them in place is good then they dont pop back out.
another way too, get them in place then stick some selotape to them to hold them in place. |

the selotape method is probably the most useful to mrpuppy !

So it sounds like I ought to just tape/secure the keys in place before I remove the front cover then? I'll definitely do that if it will help with the change. Also, with the keyboard, I assume you mean just make sure it is seated in its clips, right? Or are they prone to breaking?

just make sure they are seated properly and you dont push them out while pushing the front cover back on.
and best piece of advice: take your time, DONT get stressed. were here to help |
