I've read a lot of people complaining about the E72. Mainly they say that it's very unstable and that it always crashes when doing things like browsing. Has anyone here found those claims to be true (or not)?

The negative Amazon reviews (which seem legit) are the ones that worries me the most, since they're for the recently-released North American version. Maybe the newest firmware isn't available yet in NA?

Yeah, the Amazon reviews have been devastating. I actually have held off on my purchase just because of them. It's all basic bad firmware stuff that will eventually get fixed, but... that's a disaster for an E-series phone. That was on of the reasons E-Series phones are normally a few steps behind, so-in the software is solid on release. You simply cannot sell an enterprise device here or anywhere that is as buggy as that. Your main market will balk and your rep will be destroyed. Nokia needs to get a clue, and fast. Users will not deal with unstable, buggy, and premature software on a device they depend on for day to day communication. This type of thing is going to kill the Nokia name, regardless of whether they eventually fix the software on the devices.
perhaps this is why it was delayed across the globe then
shame really as the eseries are usaully bang on
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order one after Christmas for myself. I worry a lot about the firmware quirks, but honestly... I think some of them are horribly exaggerated. Of course that's what I said when I bought my N85Haha... and that lasted all of two days before being returned.
I have had my E72 for a month now and havent had any major issues. Just the usual firmware bugs you see in a new device. On the whole, the device is brilliant and am extremely happy.
Previous Phones:
N95, N80, N73, N70, 3230, 6680.....
glad to hear prodigy mate
Put simply from my experience...
No.
Seems rock solid to me.
There are multiple versions of the product though depending on region and different firmware, so what the reviews have been based on I don't know. However places like Amazon.com are likely to be harsh on it if they are Blackberry users trying out the E72 and expecting it to be identical. Also, E71 users upgrading are likely to be harsh if there are any niggles. If this was their first emailer, they're be nothing but praise, but because it's a replacement for an existing very loved product, it will come in for a hard time.
There are niggles. Little things that aren't quite working, although the only major one I've found is the push email is hard to get working if it works at all, especially using Nokia Messaging (something that Blackberry users would be very upset about given what they are used to). There are niggly issues with the "seamless" Internet access points that should roam between WLAN and 3G. The main problem being that not all the built in apps actually support the thing!
But crashes. No. Coming from an earlier 3.0 device, it's way more stable and I'm not running into memory issues at all. Yes on paper the memory specs seem small, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.
Frankly I'm very happy with it. Neat, sleek, fast, does what I want and doesn't cost a fortune or is heavily locked down like the iphone. Design is great. Battery life is great even with background apps running. I'm even impressed Nokia send them out with the battery precharged to get you going straight away.
New guy to the forums here.
I was really thiiiis >< close to pulling the trigger on an E72 the other day, until I did a bit of research and came across all those awful reviews.
It isn't just on Amazon. Ditto at Howard Forums. Also, if you play some of the video reviews of the device on youtube, the comments section is peppered with complaints from disgusted owners.
The saddest (funniest?) comments are also from owners of Nokia N97s and 97 minis. Those guys sound like they have battered womens' syndrome.
It seems like Nokia has been slipping in the quality control department, prior to device releases.
I'm on AT&T in the U.S. and need a good unlocked phone for the remaining year of my contract, so I'm now looking at the Nokia E75.
Hopefully by the time i am ready to buy my e72 all the bugs and issues will be solved
I've had my phone for about a week now, synch. against exxchange/etc. works realy great.. for now..some small issues though, but since I've only had it for such a short time, I cant say if it's a problem or not.
yestorday it suddenly rebooted for some reason, and it seems a bit slow, i.e. uses a few secs before it starts LOADING mycontacts.. But the initial loading goes fast.
I recently upgraded from e51 to E72. But cant find the feature to record sound while on calls, which i used to do easily by pressing the side button on my E51....
please help if there is any third party applicaiton for it.
Yes I have been facing a few issues on the Nokia E72.
1.The Browser crashing and Locking up is a common Feature.
2.The Bluetooth does behave erratically. Some times it gets disconnected while talking. You can hear some noise when suing the bluetooth hands free.
3. The space bar stops working at times and you need to restart the handset.
4. I have configured the mails and messages to be stored on the additional Memory card the handset suddenly stops detecting the additional memory card and the messages start getting stored on the phone memory. You have to restart the phone and then reconfigure the messages to be stored on the memory card.
5. I have faced problems like when there is a incomming call and you try to pick up the call the call pickup button does not function and the phone keeps ringing.
There is no new release of software for the E72. Hence still living with the problem.
