    Hard reset of N85

A friend of mine bought a month-old N85 yesterday and did a hard reset (*#7370#) to get rid of the previous owner's stuff, however this also formatted the memory card (original Nokia 8GB which came with phone). He says a "repairing card" message showed up briefly on screen, then disappeared and the card was empty afterwards, i.e. all the pre-installed Nokia stuff had gone.

Would this have been a one-off glitch ? I feel slightly guilty, since I was very convinced the hard reset would not affect the memory card nor the flash memory and told him he could leave the card in.

Bit late for you now, but I always take out the memory card out for an update or format. Some report the same as you, and some others say it asks for a password they never setup.
I do not give instructions on how to bypass satnav copy protection. So please do not ask via forum or PM.

Pay for you're software, this helps makers produce updates and support the product.

Oh no, I'm fine and so is my friend who promptly resold the N85 with a 50% profit deciding to keep his trusty N95-2.

I've never had this happen with either of my N95-1s and for him with the N95-2 clearly taking out the card is not an option. I don't take the card out when I upgraded or reset my N82 and still no issues.

As far as I can remember the password problem happens when re-inserting the card after a firmware upgrade not after a reset.
