N85 - Power Saving Mode

This is more complex than you think.

I had charged my phone up full capacity to take out with me for the weekend. I turned power saving mode ON at this point. To allow maximum standby time.

Around 10 hours later, after less than an hours use it was flashing low battery. I though that's well strange so I turned the phone off to save it for later use.

So I carry on regardless and then turn the phone back on a few hours later. Power saving was disabled at this point. What's interesting is that my battery was full.

Ok, maybe a it was a misreading by the phone ? I don't think so, when I switched back to Power Saving it immediately flashed low battery. When switched back to normal mode, again full battery.

So I left the power saving mode OFF and the phone lasted me a further 20+ hours. Until I was back home and charged it.

So the power saving feature must hold a "reserve" tank in the battery to use when it's activated. So using the normal power first is great, you then switch to power saving mode when it's low. And it uses the reserve tank of power.

Very clever if you ask me, and highly impressive.

The Power Saving option from your power key, where you can select Profiles.

No he mean's from the power button menu, not the power saver which displays the time/date etc.. Press the power button once, scroll down through the options to the "Activate Power Saving" mode.

hey ijm i think you may have just found another bug mate and not a ''reserve charge''

on my n96 if i push the power save option my battery meter dosent change at all , obvously the backlight goes out quicker etc etc but my battery meter dosent budge because i have changed it to power saver mode

i think youve just stumbled across another bug , ie you press the power saving profile and your phone jubs out and gives a different battery reading to what is present (probably the battery reading that the phone should have when power saving mode comes on with an actual low battery)

on my n96 iam able to do what you wanted to do in the 1st place , put it on power saving mode to consume less battery in the day if i have a long day ahead , and doing this dosent change my battery level at all , all i get is the little symbol in the battery meter to show that it is on power saving mode :-) its weird that your battery level jumps straight down id say when you are selecting this option manually it is making the phone give a false reading of the battery as i mentioned earlier its probably showing the same battery level that you would have if you just left your phone do its thing and the power saving come on by its self

itd be nice to think that phones would have a reserve tank of juice for emergencys but i dont think that is the case in this situation , what with it being a new nokia device on its first firmware with new technolagy like the oled screen etc and we all know what that means with nokia dont we -- buggy 1st firmware :-) perhaps this is what it is down to mate , buggy firmware , as it seems weird that the n96 and n85 have it but do different things when selected ,

hope your having a good day everyone :-)

Wow that sounds pretty cool, cant wait for mine.

So when your batteries running low does it automatically switch to power saving mode? Pretty impressive that it lasted 10 hours
