Phones4U Problem

Has anyone bought this phone from Phones4U? I'm having an absolute nightmare with them! I'll try and explain this as best as I can, it's a slightly complicated situation.

I ordered the handset from them last Tuesday over the phone. Because I was under 18 at the time (I was meant to be getting the phone as a 18th birthday/Christmas present) everything had to be done in my dad's name. When he'd finished speaking to them he told me they said it'd take four to five days to arrive. I'd forgot to mention to him that they promise 'next day delivery' so he didn't question it at the time but we just thought "fair enough, there's nothing we can do about it" and we waited. Saturday (my birthday) came and it was still not here. We decided to give it till Monday and if it still hadn't arrived then we'd ring them up. I waited all morning today but still, nothing. I rang them this afternoon and they said we'd failed the credit check. I rang my dad (who's working away at the moment) and told him this. He said that's simply not possible, there's X thousand pounds in there so I gave him the customer service number and he said he'd ring when he'd finished working. He rang them up and they told him he hadn't failed the credit check after all, and said something about them not being able to offer that handset/not able to send it to our Post Code, he sounded pretty confused about it. He told me he asked to speak to someone higher up but they refused.

I'm stuck in a rut over what to do. I don't want to settle for another handset, neither do I want to buy sim free. However, I'm going away this weekend and NEED a new phone by then. I apologise if this isn't really the right place to post this but I can't really think of anywhere else to ask.

Could someone PLEASE give me some advice!

PHONE4U ARE BLOODY AWFUL!.... ive always used carphone as ive had a better experience!

now your 18 couldn't you try in your name?

I could but I'd need to get a Maestro card first (only got a Solo at the moment) and by the time that got sorted out there'd be little chance of getting it before Christmas, let alone the weekend. It's kind of besides the point too because they were more than happy to take the order last time, it's the actual processing of it which seems to be the problem, so whose name the account's in is irrelevant.

I don't understand what their problem is. It's clearly advertised on the website (has been for a good month) and on the two occasions I rang (the first time I couldn't complete the order because my dad wasn't present), neither sales rep queried it at all.

I think a phone call to the superior is in order. Finding out why it wasn't sent out when agreed. And say you want next day signed for delivery ( as advertised )

Do you still have the order with them or did you cancel it ?


Any credit checks are done at the time of process and submit, not after a contract has been agreed.

what about going in person to your local phones 4 u and getting it there and then ?

When I rang up they told me it was automatically cancelled when the credit check 'failed', they later told my dad the credit check didn't fail though so I'm not sure where we stand there, I'm assuming it's been cancelled though seeing as they said they wouldn't send it to us. How do you suggest getting in contact with a superior figure? They refused to let my dad talk to anyone else when he rang and told him he could only address them by post which would substantially prolong the process (if a reply is received that is).

The offer is clearly still available here is it not? I haven't gone mad or anything?

To Sam and Gaz, thanks for the suggestion but I went in before I ordered it over the phone and they weren't willing to match the price (or offer anything remotely near it really).

Do you suggest doing so over the phone again or on the internet this time?

I hope I can get it sorted out =/. I really need a working phone by the weekend as I'm travelling alone to Oxford for four days and a means of communication is a must. And the phone I ordered for my birthday a week ago (!), would be preferable! (The GPS for one would be very useful!)
