N85 newb

Hey guys, just got my N85 few hours ago and just have a few questions on things I can't seem to figure out(didn't come with a manual). I looked around but I don't see any threads about these yet. This is my first Nokia so please don't get annoyed if some of these questions are stupid I'm currently in Canada using Fido's service without any sort of data plan.

1. On my last phone I had to turn off all the data settings so that whenever I used the browser it would always use the wifi in my apartment. Is there a way to set that on the N85?

2. On the main screen theres like Search, Calender, and the wlan scanning. I noticed it would scan constantly. If I turn it off will I still keep my router's connection or will it switch to Fido's and start charging me data? Also I noticed after it scans it will stop using my router's connection and connect to one of my neighbor's.

3. Does T9 exist? I've searched around the phone and I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

4. Is there a way to download maps for Canada? It's not a selectable phone so I tried N95 and it won't let me install when I try dragging the file into my phone of the PC Suite.

Thanks in advance guys just getting so frustrated with this. I'm just so used to Sony Ericsson's interface which was a bit simpler.

1. Tools->Settings->Connection->Destinations

3. Press #

4. I managed to update the European maps using the PC programs.

Yes on FP2 devices like this you can set priorities. I'm sure someone less tired will help you with that here

You can turn wlan scan off and still use you wlan when you open the browser by setting it to "always ask" in connection settings

Go to the nokia website and download Nokia map installer app and use it to download local maps without using you phones data connection or open map application and it will do it over your chosen data point (eg wlan)

Only If you are not used to them. Eventually you will notice that Nokias are simpler than SE devices

Thanks you guys. Everything seems to be sorted out except the WLAN stuff maybe. I got it so it would ask me every time. I deleted GPRS (I think thats what it was) so that my router was the only priority listed. Is there a way i can disable the GPRS all together? Just so there's no risk because I was just messing on Maps and I noticed it used like 1MBs worth and if that had been on my data it would've charged me a good 5$(Rogers/Fido is ridiculous)

The maps I downloaded with the Map loader and downloaded a pack for my province but I still don't see any roads in my area when i open maps. Trying to reopen Map Loader but it keeps freezing on me.

The T9 was actually just predictive text which confused me cause my old phone had a T9 as well as a predictive text option. yea I'm sure it'll be a lot better once I get used to it, just everything seems to require so many more clicks to get to.

Again, thanks a lot youg uys. Saved me from pulling my hair out haha.

So todays the first day of actually using the phone. Woke up to the alarm, when i grabbed the phone to turn it off I noticed the phone was off and wouldn't turn on. I heard there were restarting issues with the phone so it didn't really bother me, just took the battery out and put it back in to start it up. Had the FM transmitter going because I had a radio in the bathroom for when I have showers, the music cuts out about 3 minutes into the first song, went out, the media player wasn't open so I assumed it restarted. Sat down, played a game for about 5 minutes then went to add some stuff into my calender, restart.

It's been going like that for the past 4 hours anyone else having this problem?

Edit: I dunno if this info is important but my product code is 0561354 with software 11.047, custom version 11.057.53.1, type RM-333

Ok, would it be just that memory card? I don't have another one to test it this moment but I'll play around with the phone some more. Just weird that it didn't do it at all yesterday while I was setting everything up.
