Pretty fair account. I especially liked the comparison screens with N85 and N96 side by side. Really shows how much better the OLED screen is. Hard to argue with any of the small negative points he made, as everyone has experienced one or all of them.

Good review. I can't help but wonder though looking at those comparison pictures whether the n85 has an overly strong red tint to it. The n96 pictures actually look more natural (look at the sky picture).

I disagree. I personally think the N85 shots look more vibrant and the contrast is noticeably better. Some of the N96 shots just look a bit wishy washy and flat. Some of the N85 photos look like you could reach in and touch the object!

I have a cat with similar markings and colours and the N85 picture looks much more closer to the colour then the N96 which makes the cat look almost grey.

But if you look it just seems that it's the red that's increasing the vibrancy.

Look at the flower picture and take note of the flowers at the back, they go from bright blue on the N96, to an almost purple (increased red) on the N85.

Of course without seeing the original flower it's difficult to tell, it just seems a little unnatural.

I have a Panasonic camera which has a "sunset" mode on it, that does the same thing (increases the red) for a deep sunset colour, but it's not a true reflection of the sky.

Maybe I need to dig my n85 out to test it properly in this respect.

As you say, without seeing the original flower, there's no telling. But as I say, to me personally, I find the colour of the flower in the middle of the shot, to be a much nicer reflection then the N96's offering, which just looks too dull.

Again, my opinion.

On the Nokia roadmap that was leaked last year there was an entry for an N85 refresh with Xenon flash. I wonder when/if this will ever come to pass. I hope that with that refresh they go back and fix the slider. I almost don't mind the panel/front face lifting. I can fix that with some double stick tape (same thing that holds down most other Nokia bezels), but that slider is a complete dog (especially when the N96 seems to be solid).

one of the big problems I had with my test N96 was that the camera severely washed out the photos and made them very pale and generally crap!
That was a big deciding factor for me especially when tested next to the N95-2 ,N82 ,SE C902 and SE k850i and the N96 gave the worst pics !
Upon testing the N85 we found it fitted between N82 and N95-2 which were both above the SE handsets
