You might want to take into account the dimensions of the device. The N97 should be fairly bigger than the N86.

I'm suprised you are trying to decide really, they are 2 rather different phones.

The N97 is large touchscreen with hardware keyboard, the N86 is a classic style slider with a good camera.

However, I suspect it's mostly what I call 'New gadget syndrome.'*

Which I suspect most people on this site (including me) get.

*For those that cannot figure it out, this is where you itch for a new gadget (phone in this case) even though yours is not very old.

Bart, I made that mistake buying the N85 the day it wa relased. Only to be delfated 2 months down the line. Ah well.

I think going from the N95 camera, to a worse N85 and an even worse 5800 camera I am really wanting that camera back.

Lol IJM... We humans are never satisfied with what we have eh?

For me i'm still gonna wait it out until Nokia slaps on an N86's camera on the back of a N97 with minor changes and market it as a whole new device, then i'll be happy :D

Well I bought it not long after that, and if it wasn't for the faulty GPS, I'd probably still have it. It was down to Nokias build quality that it went back.

I am happy though, because I wouldn't have bought the 5800 otherwise, and that was just to try and sell.

I never ever expected to be as happy with it as I am (though yes, low light the camera could be improved tenfold).

Come on Nokia, release more touchscreens. I want to choose from a range like your sliders/candybars etc.

the n97 and n86 are definitely two different fish swimming in the same pond.....
i can guarantee that the build of the n97 is solid.....
i have played with one and it is solid....like old skool nokia........the durability is great
the hinge is made from an alloy (cant remember the exact spec) but again durable for many
moons.......
in relation to pics.....the n97 takes better photos than the n95,n96 and n85 imho

Camera - N95 v N97

this should also come in handy

See it's not really new gadget device, I love my N85, once I replaced the slider and once I get the all black housing, but my habits have changed and now that I have had the phone for a while. I'm looking at a year from now when I might actually be able to afford a new phone. my biggest peeve about the N85 is the screen. my god is it vibrant and beautiful to show off until you are outside. this affects every use on the phone, you can't take pics unless you are standing in the shade to see what you are shooting at. you can't text outside or surf the net. two of the things I do the most. I recently test ran an LG incite touch screen and hated it and for crying out loud I am so sick of telling people how my phone kicks the iphone's a** in so many ways and that is without a touchscreen. my biggest prob is the nokia hub closest to me is about an hour and twenty minute drive. guess I might have to just go down there and check it in person

When I see the N86 here in Sweden ( magasin mobil Sweden made a testvideo)
with amazing build quality and real fast speed in the device , more then turbo 3G.
I did preorder the N86 at once and hope it will arrive soon.

That dual LED flash in the N86 is pretty impressive ... far better than I thought dual LED would be!

Perhaps the exclusion of Xenon flash in the N97 is not such a bad thing considering the extended battery life?
