N86 - eBay

Hi,

Just a quick question. If I buy a Nokia N86 or any phone from eBay but the seller is living in Hong Kong, Singapore or China will it work in Ireland, Uk or Europe? The phone would be unlocked.

Thanks

It should work, you will have no warranty and you will be running the considerable risk of getting a clone.

did you bid for a phone or are you tempted to do so?

if so, post the eBay link here and some of the more eagle-eyed members could look it over and give some advice.

No way to tell because the seller is using a stock photo and not a photo of the actual phone for sale.

The warranty offered is only for one year (standard Nokia EU warranty is 25 months) and you will have to send it back to Singapore to make use of it.

Another potential issue: handset is coming from Singapore so you are liable for import customs duty and VAT. I don't know how exactly the seller will declare the phone when shipping it, but unless he's doing something very creative about it you could end up paying more than you thought.

Otherwise the seller looks OK, no negatives so far in the last year.

Singapore is not Eastern Europe plus depending on your definition of Eastern Europe most of it is now within the EU where there are no customs between the member countries, so the example is not really relevant.

You should be asking the seller, not trying to guess here in the forum.

just another thing, not so much of a biggie but still something.
i bought my n85 off ebay, and the product code was indonesian and the keypad had symbols above the numbers 1-5. i also had to debrand it to get the latest firmware.

so it could be that the n86 from singapore has a country varient keypad, which isnt the standard one youd get if you were buying from here.
also mine was made in china, not finland, the quality is very good, but come the time when you want to sell it you might get less than one that was bought in the uk
