dude, u might as well hand it in now.
You will get scratches...
I had the older camera and backplate. camera lens cover now seeing scratches again after NSC replacing the parts.
They couldn't do anything BUT that, but now they have new parts in, hopefully it will do the job nicely.

Actually the vertical scratch lines are adjacent to the camera lens perimeter so they won't affect the actual camera and photos

....BUT I'm handing mine back in anyway..becus I can't get a bledddy gps lock no matter where I am!!

I've spoken to Nokia customer care and been advised to take my phone to this place...

Its a bit of a pain to have to get there, but I'll need to get round to it and get the phone sorted.

Although you're phone isn't scratched yet- I reckon it will soon enough- if you're anything like me, you'll be looking after your phone and treating it with kid gloves- and still mine has scratches caused by the lense cover.

When I get round to it- i'll post back how I got on....

Gps fix confirm????

can anyone confirm if they have fixed the GPS antenna too?
I'll be going directly to Nokia Care points (old st. and The Angel) myself.

Just wondering if there is anything to confirm this apart from the Camera Lens fix

thanks

The best person to answer that would be the original thread starter, Dave... since he has the model that shipped with the new lens cover. I merely speculated that if they were going to fix one, they probably fixed the other. I have no proof, no inside track, nor definitive knowledge that they fixed anything other than the sliding cover mech, though. Simply based it on a logical reasoning of if this was fixed due to the N97s shared design and inherent flaw... perhaps the GPS got a similar treatment ;)

Well, I hope your theory is right- to get both fixed in one go would be fantastic- here's hoping.

well folks. I used OVI maps yesterday when I was in wrexham and it took 30 seconds to get a lock on and was driving back to the midlands and no drop off. Just tried it again leaning outside my windows and again 30 seconds to lock on. I havent tried the maps before so i cannot say what my old was like but this phone at the moment looks ok.
Hope this helps
Dave

***update***

well I finally managed to drag myself to the Nokia Centre in Oxford St.
and finally GOT SOME HONEST ANSWERS!!!
I asked the guys over there at customer service, and they said THEY KNEW about the problem, (GUYS I ASKED THEM THREE TIMES LOL couldn't believe it)
They both kinda gave me an apology and chuckled.....BUT***

they haven't got the new camera lens cover design in and told me to come back max 3 weeks...Two members of staff (who seemed to know their stuff) told me that there was no point in me fixing the GPS now as I'll get the old faulty camera lens design again.

They just told me to stay put and possibly later will give me a brand new handset altogether. Still...dang...3 weeks..@_@

***GOOD NEWS***
For people interested. The Nokia Centre in Oxford Street will now do service for changing phones with brand new fascias.

I told them about my sisters N79 having scratches, and he said for the first time. (Nokia Centre in Oxford St at least) will from the 23rd of November, will service replacing old casings for N Series phones. >:D
I asked about the price but he said it will vary and didn't have the exact details to share with me. Just the date when the service will start

This is OFFICIAL so take note! 23rd of November Nokia Centre (Near Oxford Street Tube station)

My N86 was new from the Nokia Store last week, and it seems that mine has got the updated camera module.

GPS performance has been flawless. First boot from the shop, and it had a fix in about 10 seconds. I did some navigation in Ovi maps over the weekend, and it was perfectly well behaved.
