I doubt that they will give you a new device..... Your best bet is to take/send it to your local NSC, but I would check with them beforehand that they are going to fit the updated camera module.

If not, just leave it a few weeks for the new stock to roll through, then send it in.

Chance are, if you do get a replacement, it won't be a new phone. They gave me a replacement on my E90 when I sent it to them for the mic and keyboard fix. That took forever to pan out and they denied there was even a problem for a long, long time. Regardless, when it came time to send it in, they end up sending me back a different phone. However, the phone was a refurb. It was nearly perfect (the keypad had a small blemish, but I didn't mind) and it at least had a working mic that didn't die on you. My best guess is, you'll probably get a refurb unit. Is that bad? I don't know... Honestly, if the phone is golden otherwise, I'd rather have the repair instead of entering the lottery again and landing on a wobbly slider or some other odd problem. At least you'll know everything will be right when you get it back.

yeah true...
My N86 is like a month old...I know N86's haven't been around for a long time.
But I know other aspects are spot on. I'd get my camera lens cover & GPS fixed than a refurb, any day.

Gunna wait and wait now, and probably pop back in 2~3 weeks time.
Will keep you posted.

Well, I spoke to a service centre today and they don't know anything about an update or a fix- yes, they are aware of N97 and replacements- but nothing about the N86.

I also phoned the nokia customer care line 0845 045 5555 and- I can't write what I want to write because ill get banned for bad language.
The guy I spoke to tried to say i wasn't covered by warranty for a repair and that i'd have to pay... i knew i was wasting my time speaking to him, so i just said- ok, lets just finish the call, funnily enough, he didn't put me through to the customer care survey- talk about head in the sand about issues- Nokia... you've trying the patience of you're most loyal customers?! -its pretty bizarre

I'd give it a few weeks. Figure around December 1st, much more of this info will be out there for the lesser care points to get and pass along. It sounds like they are sharing the same fix as the N97, which is in shortage at the moment anyway... so you're likely going to have to wait either way. I'd just forget about it for the moment and call back in December to set something up. It will probably be a lot less frustrating then. Best of luck... I know it can be very stressful to deal with stuff on a device you dropped a nice amount of change for.

Heh, see above. I've had problems with E series devices, namely my E90... which was really bad. Mic defect would cause the mic to go to a wave of static during a call. The caller would say they couldn't hear you then it would come rolling in... Static drowning out the entire conversation. That was a huge fault of the E90 and really ruined that phone for me. I eventually got it fixed, but Nokia dragged their feet on an official repair (I had read on some forums people were sending theirs in three, four, more times only to get a phone back that did the same thing after a week or so of use). Finally they identified the problem, but by that time I had an N82 and just said F-it to the E90. When I finally got it repaired (a few weeks before the warranty ran out) I used it for about two months before going... nahh I like my N82/E71 better. Honestly, the E90 was killed by that mic problem for me. I also had the older style keyboard that would scratch the screen (or so people said). I never did have that happen, but I know it scratched on a lot of other E90s out there.

Nokia eventually fixed it, but... meh... what a mess. I guess owning any Nokia can be a real hassle. Well... the E71 was awesome. No real gripes that I couldn't fix myself (poorly seated keyboard was nothing to fix, and the whole phone just pops apart and is so easy to replace/swap out pieces if you need to... exactly like the E61 was). Honestly, I take that back. Every Nokia up until the E90 I had was nearly perfect... Then I had a long line of disasters. E90, N85, 5800 (minor, but I did have the case gap), N97 (complete disaster)... I've had some bad luck.

***This should not be happening to mobiles which cost over 400 quid!***

the real scary thing is...no other mobile companies are this bad....or are they? @_@
I've never seen a samsung repair centre or SE repair centre or w.e...or is it the fact that Nokia have a good After service...
or you can say they have it becus they need it the most! >:/

***This should not be happening to mobiles which cost over 400 quid!***
The camera lens cover took me 4 days! just 4 days to make me notice there was a big lickoff horizontal scratch to the sides...how can they NOT notice that? :( do they not do screening and quality checks? :S what's going on....

I know the majority of u guys worship Nokia like god, I love it too!
..but u gotta admit...things are getting worse and worse...This is JUST like my N85....@_@ a year ago!

They haven't changed! one bit! :_(

Well this will be my last non-touchscreen mobile for me.
I will probably..most certainly not be getting a Nokia for my next handset...
