i can confirm that is a new camera cover alltogether mate

they have covered the glass with plastic (is it plastic) around the lens thus meaning the lens cant get scratched just by opening the cover

this design is allmost identical to the n900s camera design

well spotted mate :-)

this is good news very good news :-)

at least nokia are acting on complaints , not that they had much choice

again mate well spotted

they must have had a few n86s back with scracthed lens then unless someone from nokia design team said hang on if the n97s camera scratches and the n86 is the same design perhaps we should fix that too

heres hoping they fix the gps on the n86 too

This is REALLY REALLY GOOD NEWS
wow I took it to NSC and got the same circular lens!
and it now has (AGAIN) developed TWO vertical Scratch lines down it.

I'm taking mine to the NSC 2moro ASAP -.-

omg I shoulda waited abit longer before I took mine back the first time round...
what a bloody waste of time that was...

....Sigh

Thank you very much for this post Davedoubledecks!
I'm going to ask for GPS repair too!

Thank GAWWWWWD I didn't debrand this piece of ****

I'll let you guys updated on how they deal with my repair.
Is there ANY kind of OFFICIAL word from Nokia regarding N86's camera lens change? or GPS?
Do I just go to NSC (Oxford St) and just ask for Another repair? but with the new specs?

please someone help me!
thank you

I have a feeling if the lens cover has been replaced, that the GPS antenna has also seen an update. I really applaud Nokia for being forward thinking here and fixing what they knew was a flawed design. I guess that is one advantage of sharing parts between devices. If there is a problem on one, chances are you know there will be a problem on another. Ah well... I still think I want this phone, but I'm going to give it some time for the fixes to propagate, I think.

This is indeed very good news- my own camera lense was starting to get marked - despite what i'd describe as pretty light usage.

I've mentioned the GPS problems before, so if i can get all this fixed in fell fell swoop i'll be extremely happy.

I've got a list of Nokia Service centres here in Glasgow- I assume that they'll be aware of the issues with the N86 -hopefully

Can anyone recommend me a Nokia Service Centre in Glasgow? -any one i should go to in preference and more importatantly- any i should avoid?!?!!

I live in Glasgow and i wish i could help you but i've never taken a Nokia phone to a NSC before so i've got no clue whatsoever! But my N86 (touch wood) is great so far, working fine and no scratches.
