When i travel the signal sometimes goes completely?

As title, where i live my signal is full 7 bars and 3G, but when i visit my parents the 3G signal is very weak, anyway when i came here the last two times ive got here and checked my phone and ive got no signal at all and the phone doesnt seem to automatically search, unless i didnt leave it long enough to sort its self out? i just turn it off then when it comes back on its fine, but i shouldnt have to do that?

Its set to "operator selection" automatic, so should be fine? just a little frustrating sometimes

Which network are you on ? Sometimes when you travel and your handset jumps from cell tower to cell tower it could hang in between if the transfer doesn't go smoothly for whatever reason and become de-registered from the network. A reboot sorts it out as you have already established. The same thing happens to me occasionally even within central London.

Ahh good to know theres not a problem with my trusty n86.

Im surprised it drops anywhere in london really, you'd think it would be strong everywhere around there, but as you said it could drop during the transition between the two transmitters

    Thanks for the reply
