-Camera quality: Can it compare with that of an N86, in terms of colour, contrast, macro etc.? (disregarding the size of the photo, pixel count) or will it just be the same standard as my N95-1
-Speaker as Sp00k mentioned. (btw thanks sp00k i never knew that. Though when comparing to my cousin's 5800 i still feel the N95 falls slightly short in terms of the deeper, bass tones.) -can you copy and paste stuff without having to slide out the keyboard and use ctrl+c That's about it for now. Thanks Mic!

Another vote for battery life, this is a major concern, I expect it to be worse than my i8910 (and I already curtail my use a little due to battery considerations as it is...).
Can you test the Tunewiki application? Is it just naff lyrics search like the one at Ovi Store, or is it the full player? If the full player does it have lastfm playback ability?

I can answer one - there is no turn by turn navigation. Just basic maps. HI Micky Can you test please: The loading of music to device from pc/laptop - as much as you have time for. ie it takes 10 hrs to load 4000 tracks to N97 using Ovi suite - is it better? Opening on said tracks in the music player - takes between 28 and 58 seconds to open on N97. As mentioned by other a direct comparison of speakers against other devices. If available to you can you get the "Ogg Vorbis" codec loaded and test the playback quality. Is Mauku anygood for Twitter? comparison to Gravity Whats the Native Browser like - is Fennec Better? That would do me Thank you in anticipation BR Sheridan01 |

Thanks for all your suggestions, I have thanked each of you in this thread to indicate I have made separate notes of each, and will do my best to cover all of these when the N900 Preview unit arrives.
Please note, I have to remind you that this Preview N900 unit is running unfinished firmware, so please take this into account during my test reports. The hardware is final on this unit however, so as to the speaker tests, this will be fine, and according to my personal experience with a couple of N900 handsets at Nokia World recently, i can confirm the speakers are as good as those in the N95, but will also test again with this preview unit also.

- Another vote for battery life
- GPS signal strength, how quickly does it lock in, how close and how accurate it is - Ovi maps, just how slow is it compared to Ovi maps on the N97 - Video playback in the various formats, in particular divx/avi - The browser, how fast is it, is it as easy to use as Opera Mini (forward/back, speed dial, password manager), what is that 'mouse' like to use, is it easy to copy, cut & paste text, images and video - Flash, how good is it, try YouTube and DailyMotion in both their full and mobile version sites to fully test response, and what about the latest version mobile Flash? - Apps...can you install desktop Linux apps...I read that if you install a certain library as an app (cant remember the name, will try to find), it then allows you to install full desktop linux apps - Contacts, how well are social networks and VoIP integrated...is it seamless, user friendly, actually usable? - Portrait mode, try to get anything other than the phone app, 3rd party apps maybe, to work in portrait mode, and see how the device responds Ummm.....thats a start Last edited by euanandrews; 10-12-2009 at 10:57 AM. Integration with contacts -
Can you create calender events that integrate with contacts (birthdays, anniversry, meeting etc)? Ideally, I'd like to know if such things are ported over if you transfer device, but that's a little hard to do with only one device out :P Can you do a screenshot of a sample contact. I'd like to see if they have improved the address field. Is there any integration yet of Ovi Maps and contacts? Not expecting this yet though due to the infancy of Maps on that platform. Cheers for doing this Micky - and since you are getting one to trial, it looks like you are getting quite a name for yourself eh? Quite rightly too - I enjoy your stuff, and your device reviews are always good.

Micky I have a very easy yet specific request. Can you see how long the phone lasts on one charge while syncing email all day, general Gravity use, Bluetooth On, WiFi scanning on, Google Latitude On and finally playing 1 hour of music?
Second test, open everything and see how far you get before it crashes, just wondering how much you can actually run on those 4 "panes".

Same as Sp00k please Micky - internal speaker quality...
I wonder if you could knock up a video comparing the N900 to N97 and 5800, playing the same track, say at half volume on each device? May not give a full experience on youtube but I know what the 5800 and the N97 sound like (and how much worse the N97 is than the 5800 in the audio department) so comparing to the two of them should give a pretty good idea! Thanks :-) Last edited by spyda; 10-12-2009 at 06:23 PM. |

Regarding the GPS Michael Jerz at My-Symbian, who wrote a massive piece on the N900 based on his preview device, says its the same as the one in the i8910 as its bundled with the CPU. If thats the case then the GPS reception should be amazing, like it is in the i8910.

One more thing Micky, can you see if we can install Gnome on it? or KDE? I know they're not finger friendly, but still they're good to have for the full desktop experience. Also is the TV-out just a stretched out screen? Or does it output at a higher resolution? |
