What exactly do you mean by caller name display?
All phones have it and so does the N900, if a contact's name is in your contacts it will show, if not the number will.
Sorry, let me calrify.
On my past phones (sony and nokia N95) if someone is NOT in my contact list, the name of that person would still come up on my display.
The N90 the number only comes up. I am paying for the service thru Rogers, and would like it to work.
Oh so it's like TruCaller, I'm not sure if that works since I've never seen anything like it in IL.

If the caller has chosen the option to hide his/her ID you would not get a number/name or it would show "Private number". to the recipient.
That's the way I read it anyway, has been and is on my N95 and N900.

All the calls i got on my N95 showed the business/persons numbers unless they were blocked then they show "private number".
I am assuming that the N900 does not support this function. Here in Canada everyone has name display.
Finding a lot of functions missing on this N900 that i enjoyed on the N95..
The N900 will display the caller's name if they are in your contact list, if not it will display their number. If the sender turns off 'own number sending' on their phone the N900 will, as already mentioned display 'Private Number'.
As for missing features compared to an N95 yes there are some phone features like multimedia messages not supported as yet, but there are third party solutions. The N900 is not primarily a phone but an internet tablet with phone application built in. It is far more powerful than an N95 and is not marketed as a phone. It is if you like an open source 'hybrid' device and to compare it to a phone is like comparing apples and oranges.

Thanks for the replies, hope some of my issues will be resolved in the near future thru firmware updates, 3rd party apps!
Zak I think you should have told a little more about the CallerName service so that you dont get replies like how address-book works.
I have the same problem with my N900.
Caller Name is a service that the cellular provider offer and with this service CallerName comes from the cellular provider as a part of caller ID (which has two parts Name and Number) and this caller Id field is encapsulated in the call header sent from the phone provider.
In other words the way you receive caller number from the provider, similarly provider sends the caller name as well. (well if the caller blocked his CallerId or the call is coming from an outside network and the provider did not get any line identification from originating provider, of-course it will show nothing or 'unknown' or whatever but that is out of the scope of this problem).
Problem here is that for a regular local call, provider is sending Caller's Name with the Caller number (caller is not in address book). N900 shows the caller number but does not display the caller name.
I am not sure if the problem is only related to Canadian providers (e.g. Rogers/Fido, Bell) or it is with all carriers around the world. I am not even sure if providers around the globe do offer caller name service.
If somebody is using CallerName service outside Canada please tell us that the service is not available in Canada only but other countries also have it. Also if you have N900, please tell us if it works on N900 or not.
thanks
