My wife is on O2, she has just entered the last month of her contract, but there is nothing out there on the O2 website that is worth having....better than a N95 at least, and the N95-8gb is only available on a 18 or 24 month contract with them

What I did when my contract came to an end this month, was to move on to an o2 simplicity tariff. Which is 30 days rolling contract, For £20 a month you get 600 min and unlimited texts. Plus free o2 to o2 calls. All for £20 a month, if you sign up in Aug, after that it goes back to £25.

I got them to confirm to me, that once a phone comes out that I like, I can then re take out a 12 Month contract as I've had for years and are able to get the phone on a free and negotiate another contract.

Call up the cancellations line, and say you wish to be moved onto the simplicity 20 tarriff. Mention the 600 mins and Unlimited text bolt on as per the website.

Then ask them, when I want to come off simplicity and return back to my normal contract am I able to get a new phone and negotiate a new contract. They will say yes, that's all you need. As all call are recorded, so take the name of the person you spoke to, note the time and date. They'll change you to simplicity withing 24 hours.

just a bit of an update for those with their eye on this thread....

i was on the phone to vodafone today and the lady on the cancellation/upgrade line told me that they had the N96 available in 'september sometime'

I'm not on contract, I'm on 02 pay as you go.

When is the N96 due out? As last I heard it's due October, but ya know what they're like for putting the date back.

Also, I saw a N85 in the paper the other day, I'd never heard of one before but mate says they're very similar to the N96

Beddy, there is no offical UK release date for the N96 We just know it's October at the moment.

The N85 is what many have opted for instead of a possible upgrade to the N96 have a seach on here mate. There are a few threads go into it in detail for you.
