N96 or N85?

Ok so the N85 was announced today:

Nokia N85 announced

Not much details on specs except:

- 2.6-inch AM OLED 2.6 inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) with up to 16 million colours display
- 5 megapixel camera
- geotagging capabilities.
- dedicated N-Gage gaming keys
- 10 pre-loaded demo titles (choice of one licensed game for free)
- S60 3rd edition
- HSDPA
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- GPS
- FM Transmitter
- direct access to the Nokia Music Store
- power for up to 28 hours of music playback
- 3.5mm headset connector
- dedicated music keys
- includes a 8GB microSD card instead of memory built-in

Its apparently out in the UK in September.

My question is - how does this now stack up against the N96. In particular, I'm interested in battery life. Although it doesn't tell us the capacity, is 'power for up to 28 hours of music playback' more then the N96??

I really want to know dimensions too.

After the N95, battery has become really important when choosing a new phone for me now!

I'm hoping the N85 is slimmer too. If so, those two factors would settle it for me.

Hmm, an FP2 phone with the looks of the N96. And perhaps smaller as well.

So no DVB, and therefore cheaper. Much more appealing to people in the UK.

Dont know if its a double slider though.

Im thinking perhaps this is the phone most N95 users would go for. Not exactly an upgrade, but perhaps more suited than the N96.

Will be very interesting when the proper specs come out.

Battery capacity?

Dimensions?

Flash type?

Nail on the head there Bart. I was going to settle for the N96, although I wasn't entirely happy with that. Then this N85 popped up and it definitely seems like a natural successor to the N95. Even without the dual slider (we don't know if it does or doesn't have on yet) I'd probably still go for it.

Saw this on AAS:

Get Ready For The N79 & N85 - All About Symbian Forums

Trusted Reviews claims:
"The duo will hit the UK next month with unsubsidised pricing of £279 (N79) and £359 (N85). Quite why you go down that route however when networks will surely be offering this duo for next to nothing on a decent contract is beyond me.

Why do so many people not understand that contracts are not always the cheapest way?

Anyways, it looks like £279 for the N79 and £359 for the N85.

Thats a lot, but then I think the N96 is going to be just inder £500, maybe £450.

it looks more or less the same as the N96. and who needs 16 GB anyway, i have 2.7 GB used on my 8 GB memory card after 1 year of use.

i'd also trade DVB-H for a FM transmitter any day, especially as there are not many places where you can get a DVB-H signal.

What exactly does the N85 have over the N79?

To me, the N79 looks like by far the best of the lot.

Its like the N78 (but better buttons), but has a 5MP camera with what looks to me, like a very solid lens cover.

Has TV out, accelerometer, and all that guff.

Must be missing something from the N85, surely?

Mobileburn has some pictures of the N79, look at the back. http://www.mobileburn.com/gallery.jsp?Id=5161

Seriously, at £279, thats hellva phone. Could even be the best N series yet.

Only difference I can see is the screen. N79 2.4, the N85 2.6, but there must be more differences.

Yeah its gotta be less feature rich then the N85 otherwise why the difference in price? Can't be .6" only. Suppose no slider module so less parts.

However it looks like they're going to market the N79 as the 'fashion' phone. So perhaps its strategic pricing.

I'd still get the N85 though. I much prefer sliders.
