What version of PC Suite are you using?

As to NSU connectivity, does the update start ok, ie, does it find, and identify your N96 correctly.?

Make sure you download the latest version of one of the PC suites. I'm using a Laptop running Vista and use Nokia's N Series PC Suite. It took it's time to find my N96 the first time I ran it, but once it did, it has never struggled since. As regards a firmware update I had to run it a couple of times before it saw my N96, like you it said there was no compatable phone connected. However my N96 was eventually found, so I would recommend perseverence.

How can you do the firmware re-install if your machine wont recognise the usb?

I had a problem similar on my machine. The update gets to 15% then disconnects the usb then got the message to take the battery out and try again.

I used my dads machine and only installed NSU without pc suite and it worked, so i dont know if it was just my machine or the fact that pc suite wasn't installed on my dads machine.

My machine wont complete a backup restore either. It takes a backup but wont complete the restore. WTF?

Also i had the n-series suite and it wouldn't connect my phone. I have to have pc suite 7 also to get it to work. It's pants anyway, pc suite 7 is much more to the point and doesn't take 3 weeks to launch!

There is no PC Suite version for N96 - there is PC Suite that either works or it doesn't. You shouldn't have changed anything which was working OK from your N95, but it's too late for that now.

Do NOT use PC Suite from the CD which comes with the phone, it is always older version than the one currently available from the Nokia website.

Uninstall everything Nokia related from your computer, install latest PC Suite 7.9.2 from Nokia website and try again.

Follow 93tid instructions but also check your device manager when you have removed all Nokia s/w and remove any Nseries devices.

HELLO! am i invisible?????? I posted the exact same problem that i had that you are experiencing. Again here is my post:

I had a problem similar on my machine. The update gets to 15% then disconnects the usb then got the message to take the battery out and try again.

I used my dads machine and only installed NSU without pc suite and it worked, so i dont know if it was just my machine or the fact that pc suite wasn't installed on my dads machine.

So i would recommend un-installing everything nokia related and just try using NSU on it's own
