Just got my '96 today, and immediately upgraded to v12.. I say "immediately", but NSU wasn't having it at all so I ended up eventually doing it OTA, and I have to say it still seems pretty slow at doing some things. Obviously I don't know how quick it was before, because the FW upgrade was pretty much the first thing I did with the handset, but for example:

~ "preparing to install" Gmail app took ages, at least 10 minutes, so I got bored waiting and decided to browse the bundled videos, which roundly refused to play while it was busy thinking about this application install

~ it's quite picky about which of the menu icons it lets me move position, unless I go into a menu sub-folder first - eg Applications, then back again - and then I'm allowed to move another icon

~ when replying to a text from my inbox, it takes a good 7 or 8 seconds of thinking before it allows me to type anything; it also seems a bit slow to send after I press the green button

I'm browsing the forum on and off to see what the general feeling is, but just thought I'd comment here while these thoughts were in my brain.

Does all this sound normal? I used Switch to transfer everything over from my old N95, including text messages, call log etc., if that changes anything.
I have to say after limited mucking about with it, I'm not hugely impressed with the camera yet either compared to the N95, but then it is dark I suppose. Perhaps I'm too used to the ole '95..

Cheers

No, not at all normal. I know you've only just got it, but back everything up to either a memory card or PC and do a hard reset (*#7370#). This should sort your speed issue out.

Thanks - I've done that a couple of times, and each time I do the restore it gets to 51% and then stops - it doesn't freeze or crash or kick up an error, it just doesn't go any further.

Like you said though, there wasn't much on it to begin with so I don't have much to lose, and I did a manual copy of the mass media before updating the firmware so any games it came bundled with .. and of course the French version of Transformers because it's a French released handset (543712 France Dark Grey) .. might be retrievable that way although I'm not that fussed.

The speed has improved massively though, and I think it was down t the way the Switch imported all my old text messages - why did I ever tick that option? But they all went across in a strange order, SMS first then MMS, and stayed that way despite being sorted by date, and I think that might have been one thing that was confusing it.

Anyway thank you, I'm now gonna spend the rest of the night trying to re-install N-Gage and the freebie games I got with it!

Cheers ears
