    Is it REALLY that bad?

    Hey all.

So, I'm stuck with the flu, and my days are filled with boredom. So I thought I'd do a kind of "a day in the life of my phone" type diary thing where I document what I'm doing with my phone. With all the bad reviews of the N96 floating around, I just felt like defending this poor misunderstood beauty a bit...

It's "crappy" and it has "abysmal" battery life and it just flat out "sucks" - that's the impression you get when you surf the web for a bit looking for information about the N96. While of course it isn't a perfect device, in my opinion it really doesn't deserve all the thumbs-down reviews it has gotten!

09:00 /// I wake up and unplug my fully charged N96 from the charger.

    09:45 /// I make a call that lasts for 10 minutes and 52 seconds.

10:20 /// I compose and send two text messages. I connect to the web (Opera Mini) to check my mails for about 3 minutes.

10:45 /// I have received and read two text messages, and replied to one of them.

    11:30 /// I make a call that lasts for 7 minutes and 9 seconds.

12:15 /// I connect the N96 to my laptop and install two N-Gage trial games. I then unplug the USB cable and toy around with the games for 25 minutes.

14:00 /// I watch two videos using CorePlayer, for a total playing time of 43 minutes and 19 seconds.

14:45 /// I compose two text messages and receive two replies.

16:35 /// I answer an incoming call that lasts for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. And again I check my gmail for about 3 minutes using Opera Mini.

17:50 /// I take 9 photos with the N96 camera. I also reply to a new text message and receive a reply.

19:10 /// Another incoming call, this one lasts for 9 minutes and 3 seconds.

20:30 /// I use Opera Mini to surf the web (wlan) for 30 minutes. Gmail, Facebook, three news sites and a few Google searches.

    21:00 /// I make a call that lasts for 6 minutes and 37 seconds.

21:30 /// I have received an sms, I don't reply to it. I play a java game for 20 minutes.

22:10 /// I listen to music using the built-in speakers while I do the dishes and a bit of cleaning. Total playing time 52 minutes and 13 seconds. During this time I received 1 multimedia message and 1 text message. I reply to both of them. (MMS + SMS)

23:35 /// I uninstall some java games, then connect the N96 to my laptop to install 2 new ones. I unplug the USB cable and play the new games for a total of 22 minutes.

00:10 /// I use the Web Browser to connect to a wlan and watch videos on YouTube Mobile for 15 minutes.

01:00 /// I'm off to bed, and I still have 2 battery bars left on my N96.

I don't know whether or not this qualifies as "heavy use" but I'd say it's definitely more than average use? Is this really that bad for a phone? I don't think so... Granted, I'm no expert but...

You ask: "Is it REALLY that bad?" I'd say nope... And neither is the flu you speak of by the sounds of it!

I think that you've just proved how infinitely more debilitating 'man-flu' is, compared to the female version... If I had flu, I'd have turned my phone off and hibernated for a few days, not answered it, texted and generally played around with it, etc. Let alone kept a log! I suspect that you're skiving!

is it 'swine' flu though...some people from college suspect it's being called swine flu because no-one wants to admit man flu is real...

A man with the flu is worse than a woman in labor.

And yeah, I'd probably be composing multimedia messages while in labor too... AND keeping a log of everything that happens.

With that said though, I do think that the N96 is the sexiest phone on Nokia's roster, with the E71 White a close second... But that is just a coincidence!

...I only wish they'd offer it in Hot Pink.

Vineshdark, we try to use proper grammar here. As well as good practice, there is a lot of people from other countries visit this site, and proper English would help them understand better, rather than text speak.

It's not that it's a bad phone. If the N95 wasn't as ground-breaking as it was, the N96 would have been fantastic. It's just that, after the N95, the next flagship device had more to live up to.

But hey, if those bad reviews keep you logging, then it's all good .

That said, I hope you get better soon.

OK, so it's not an abbreviation but you get the idea.

and did you know that the abbreviation WWW actually has more syllables than the words World Wide Web?

oh boy, at this rate i might have to change my name to Steve Davis.
