N96 new Firmware V20.050 & Changelog

The new firmware 20.050 for the N96 is on its way, check out the features below. Some of the interesting features include, improved music and imaging quality; ability to associate actions with the sliding movement of the phone; new music player and Nokia messaging client
pre-loaded.

Keep a close eye and your Nokia Software updater will be able to tell you when it is available. [Via]

* Email:
o Nokia Email client and Mail for Exchange (MfE) preloaded (User will install and configure email clients with the help of Settings Wizard)
o Settings Wizard 5.0: offers improvements for Nokia Email and MfE setup
o Active Standby Email Plug-in: showing new email messages on Active Standby screen
* Look & Feel:
o Support for Audio Themes: configurable sounds for various events e.g. opening/closing slide, battery low etc
o Setting to allow a slideshow to be used as wallpaper
o Slide handling: Setting to allow user to configure effect opening/closing the slide has on a call and keylock
* Others:
o WiFi Protected Setup is now supported, allowing simplified setup of WLAN security with a supported WLAN access point
o Support of IAD (Independent Application Delivery): Allows certain applications to be updated independently over the air.

Improvements

* Correction for occasional CMLA (Content Management License Administrator) certificate corruption. (These certificates are needed for e.g. Mobile TV and N-Gage license purchases)
* Energy management:
o Shorter lights/screen timeout when lockswitch activated. Backlight dims as soon as keylock is enabled
o Media Keys surrounding the rocker key lit only if a media application is open
o Right Softkey changed from “Hide” to “Exit” for Music Player for EM savings
* Photos/Camera/Imaging:
o A number of improvements made to the Camera image quality
o The device SW version information is now stored in the image MetaData
o Default recording quality for video is changed from ‘TV normal’ to TV high’
o Noise reduction of recorded videos
* Media/DRM:
o New version of Music player: Performance and “Comes With Music”-related improvements
o FlashLite update for improved YouTube compatibility – improvements in rendering of Flash Video
o General Media player &streaming related usability & performance improvements
o OMA DRM v2 content can use device clock if no secure clock (i.e. NITZ) is available
* Browser:
o Empty bookmark folders removed from Browser bookmarks (i.e. the “Download…” folders)
o Link to Ovi.mobi is included in Browser bookmarks
* Others:
o Vibra enabled when charging
o When gaming in landscape mode, stereo audio will be played through correct speakers
o Updated Themes
o Slide triggered keyguard activation: When closing the slide, pressing any key within 2 seconds will result in keylock not being activated
o Several error corrections based on Care and operator feedback
o Several application baseline updates

unusaul for it to roll out to so many at once maybe this firmware has been tested loads allready

its a big update 13 odd megabytes big via ota

v12 was only about 4mb ota

so its 3x as big as v12

that changelog is impressive too , new music player etc i cant wait to see the camera results as well iam hoping they have fixed the marco mode bug and the noise reduction in video has been bugging loads of people too so hats off to nokia , this is what i love about them , they sort the bugs out , many people with the samsung innov8 wish they had support like this and this is where nokia prevails over other manufacturers

please note iam writting this while i play with the phone and going through things

right its done and straight away i notice a different warning tone , when i enter my pin and lock code the noise is not as sharp and is much nicer tone ,

when i slide my slide up and down i get a swoosh noise also

i guess these can be changed in settings

a few of the icons have changed like the download app , search etc

phone is faster but could be placebo , but it does seem faster to me

new email stanby , with preview of 1st message , ut oh some people will hate this it takes up another 2 lines on the standby screen

marco mode still dosent seem to work on mine , with a 2p held up it will still focus on the background but not the 2p , with txt from a newspaper it focused ok so very hit and miss still

looks like you can turn the email stanby app off in settings

in themes there is an audio themes folder

there is 1 new theme nokia n96 speacial edition

no new options under navi wheel just breathing still

there is a new option in settings for slide handling ie , slide awnswers and hangs up etc

reboot time is approx 26 secs to my pin code entry which did seem along time i have noticed though that if connected to a charger reboot time is almost instant

phone was ready to use quicker then before on v12 there was a long wait till your battery bars and signal bars were displayed , this is much quicker now

free ram after boot measured with jbak taskman is 44.5mb and thats with flip silent on auto start as well

camera does seem to have improoved with noise levels alot lower in bad light when using the duel led flash , flash seems more white then before as before it could have a blue tint in alot of pics , apart from the hit and miss marco mode id say it was defently better then it was although camera startup time is roughly the same as before after the 1st start off camera it is very snappy to open but 1st time was about the same

on mine there still seems to be a hissing noise when playing back recorded video clips , ive only just tested this , but when i play back a recorded video and turn the volume up there is defently still the hissing noise , it isnt as prominent as it was but it hasnt gone , i must say the vid quality is very good but i believe it was anyway and dont use this option very much allthough i may have to there was no artifacts and was a very clear video justa shame about the little bit of hissing i guess the mic sensitivity is set to high still maybe as the mic does pick up alot of sound from around you which is good

after having a play with the camera and browsing through my menus a bit my ram had dropped to 35.7mb when looked at with jbak taskman

there is a new app update application in the application folder

new icons in the music player

music player still took a while to open but i do have 15 days of music on there lol , music playback via speakers seemed a little better and was a very good quality via my cx 300s but it was allready very good anywyas , graphic equaliser is the same as is visulisations

iam off to look some more

please note i havent done a hard reset which i sometimes do after a firmware upgrade and also i installed via ota as its so much safer the using nsu

by the way the hack dosent work on v20 anymore , iam now looking for a new patch for v20 as the other one dosent work and now comes up with a red cross in rom patcher
