Expansys always have the most outrageous prices!

I think it'll go for about £550-£600 on other websites.

Take all these N97 prices with a pinch of salt for now...

Play.com had it a 480 GBP, then 650, now 600 GBP is the latest price announced on their site, it's good to see Nokia's comment about these quoted prices though!

It seems that about the only reasonably accurate info they have so far, is the release date! ;)

At the end of the day, most of these will be subsidised via a contract - I think Orange Originally wanted about £200 for a N95 8Gb on a £35 pm contract, then this dropped to zero pretty quickly - the N96 was £286 again on a £35 pm contract... It's already down to £176 and I suspect will be £79 or £89 in a few weeks.... @ £35pm I don't expect handsets of this value to be free, BUT PERSONALLY - I NEVER pay for my upgrades with Orange, indeed actually got cashback on the 96...

I suspect the N97, when it finally lands will be about £299 on a £35 pm contract, but as supply increases, this will come down (remember the muppets who paid BIG MONEY!! for an Iphone on an 18 mth contract???) - It may take a while, but I would expect it FOC on a £50 pm contract after a short while - BTW all of those contracts are 18 mth, I only do 12 mth contracts on my personal phone, my others (4) are all on 18 mth...

So..other than price, which is what this thread has evolved into...is the N97 the next N95 of 2007?

I'm going to say no, just because so many people are resistant to touch-interfaces. I honestly think a real N95 successor is in the works, the N86 is most likely a precursor to it... The N97, though... like the N96, I think is going to appeal to a specific segment of users. Those will most likely be the minority, and I doubt it will ever see mass-market-appeal, however, that being said I'm still rather anxious/curious about it. I just hope the CPU doesn't turn out to be another ARM 11 369MHz that leaves the whole thing completely underpowered. Watch the videos online of the E55s interface (even in proto-stage) and just look how amazingly smooth and responsive it is. That's what I want out of the N97, but the demos of it I've seen have been anything but.

Remember though, the N97 shown in these videos is a prototype, and still quite buggy.

I too hope that the N97 processor will be up to the job.

i think it will have at least 600Mhz+, it will sell alot of phones in the Euro market, but not too sure here in the US, specially since no one wants to subsidize it, and the new iPhone 3.0 firmware...

The N97, E55 , 5630 Xpressmusic etc. will have the same speed 10,2Mbit
(10,2Mbit downlink,2,0Mbit uplink)
wich are real fast (the Turbo 3G run speed on 7,2Mbit)

more here http://www.n95users.com/forum/lounge...processor.html

#giodelgado I have no clue if there be some who subsidize the N97
in the US market later?

Wait, is that implying that the N97 may have the up and coming 600MHz CPU, then? That would probably sell the device once and for all to me. I know it sounds overly nerdy to care about clock-speeds, but let's face it: These are mobile computers, and a lot of us use them as such. Everything from browsing the web to listening to music... to... just using the phone is better if things are faster. I know we won't know for sure until Nokia throws us a bone, but... That's promising.
