I wonder whether that's any indication of the chipset in the N97. The Samsung OmniaHD also has a built-in compass.

Are there any ARM11/OMAP2 phones with a compass as well? If not, then it could be likely the N97 has OMAP3...here's hoping!!

The phone has allways been listed with a digi compass so wouldnt get to excited by the omap3 idear

if the n97 runs smooth on a tweaked arm11 then theyll use that and save the other chip for future devices when the cost of the better chip would also probably b cheaper to buy and use for them

You make a good point. Although I'm not worried about the browser, camera, or video recording capabilities, or running normal applications. They shouldn't be any more demanding than what's available on current phones. What I'm worried about is the smoothness of video playback (good quality MP4, FLV, Real Media) and N-Gage on that resolution screen. Mostly N-Gage really.

but the video is very poor done , cant be any pro who make it
