If the FM transmitter is legal in the UK, it will probably be low power. I just don't rate FM Transmitters, seems old news to me - If you can afford to spend £500 on a phone, surely you can shell out £70 for a Bluetooth headunit?
Its not about the money in this case. Its the fact that i paid 6000 dollar for my OEM navigation system so that its in already. And i have bluetooth with the stock headunit, but its not playing well with my sub. Either way i think one of my buddies enlightened me, i need to update my cars software. *cross my fingers that this works*.

Its funny how true this is, yet nobody does it.

A benefit of the FM transmitter is if you are in a friends car. While they are driving, you can hijack the stereo and play your own music.

If you were in my car, you could stream it. ;)

My (frustrated) point here is that FM transmitters have been available for years. I've tried them and I don't rate them, especially in areas with a lot of Stations - they just don't compare to Bluetooth or a Cable. It's a backward step.

The N97 had better do a whole lot besides this and unfortunately, I'm starting to wonder if it's going to. The N95 is still the flagship device and there's very little it doesn't do for me...

I'd like it to be a bit faster.
Have a better music player (Jump from a Random track to the album it's from for example).
Have the flash off the N82.
I'd like it to work on 5ghz wifi, so it doesn't interfere with Bluetooth.
Have a Projector built in
Have a connectivity to a nokia push email service with widget notification
Solar pannels for topping up the battery
And a full, proper browser.

All the reviews I've seen just detail features I already have and the magical "facebook" widget, wooooh! Does anyone really struggle to get on facebook presently? Ok, it's not so pretty, but even Fring does a good job.

The rest of the stuff, like LED's on while sooting video, Bigger better screen is expected just as part of the natural progression, even though my K750i did the LED thing 4 years ago!

C'mon, where's the good stuff? It's been 2 years for goodness sake!!!! Or maybe there's some hardware laying dorment in there that they will activate in a later firmware... (Accelerometer reference)?

It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

1. possible.

2. Possible, but an extra menu entry, something Nokia would like to keep down.

3. Yay. As would we all, I don't think many use the video in dark enough conditions.

4. Possible, unless something technical negates it in a small cellular device.

5. Bit impossible at the moment, would make the phone very large, and possible quite fragile.

6. Oh indeed, but that's the sort of service they would like to charge for.

7. Pretty much useless on a phone, since it spends the vast majority of it's life in a bag/pocket/case.

8. Can you really get a full browser on a mobile device? Not imo, screen size is way too much of a limitation. What I'd like to see is an improved one, with the option of a 'full' one if it's being put on a bigger screen (via TV out etc).

Thanks for your feedback on that Bart.

I guess buy a "full" browser, I meant functionality. Things like being able to play content from varies sites, plug-ins and the like. Akin to SkyFire (Which I appreciate is a different sort of technology) But along those lines.

As for Solar pannels, I was thinking of emergency times. If the battery is running low, leave it on the table to juice up... a Nice to have feature...

I believe push email is part of the natural progression. We've been able to POP/SMTP for years and I think Push is where it's at, it's what RIM have exploited and I don't think it's much to ask for when paying this much for a phone. Build it into the price...

As for the Projector, again, natural progression, we've all huddled found 2" screens in the boozer watching the latest video viral, we should be able to project now. And the technologgy seems to be available already.

The N95 was a fantastic advancement over competitors and earned it a great deal of respect, keeping it top of the gadet list for a long time. N97 need to exceed this, and (even though I am going to buy one anyway) I don't think an FM transmitter and a few widgets are going to cut it. My expectations are certainly a lot higher.

Regarding the lack of internet calling in fp2 phones and the 5800 see this:

The report of the death of VoIP has been grossly exaggerated | Nokia Conversations

I guess the N95 will still be useful for internet calling in offline mode on wifi..o well

I see, well you do have a point with the browser.

I don't think the projector is advanced enough. I think it would push up the phone cost so much, and also possibly create problems in fitting everything else in. Can you squeeze in everything you are used to - wifi, GPS, bluetooth, 5mp + cam, dual LED or Xenon flash and a projector? I wasn't impressed with the quality either, though they could have shown it on something other than paper and shirts!

Doesn't RIM charge for their push email services per month? Everytime I see blackberries you get a choice to have the email service at xx per month based on the number of devices. I think push is overrated tbh. I have perfectly good email system going via mail for exchange on my 5800.

Solar panels, while it would be good for those situations you mentioned, they are just way to inefficient and expensive to bother with. Why increase phone cost £40+ for something that makes it more fragile and will only get used very infrequently? Plus it's not very effective, you would have to wait many many hours just to get enough juice to call, unless you used those uber expensive panels.

I don't doubt it will come, it will just take more time.

Thanks Bart.

Yeah, RIM do charge, through the network. Admittedly, You can get similar results from Exchange, but not everyone has an Exchange box lying around. Similar service is due for GWIA soon aswell, but I was thinking of NokiaMail?

I suppose, much like they charge an optional subscription for Maps, Nokia could be expected to deliver this really as an easy option not contract based like RIM and not too technical as your Exchange option is (for most folk). Perhaps a seperate subscription, pay for it with Texts or something...? You know?

That said, I really enjoyed the demo that French chap did with the '97, up on the homepage of this site today. I just expected more.

hi gavin iam sure there will be more mate , just not in the n97 .........

the n97 is in trouble of being another n96 in several ways , its kind of old software/hardwrae allready isnt it?? just like the n96 was when it was released , touch screen , fm transmitter , 5mp camera , all out there allready with higher end options avalible tooc when it hits the streets it wont even be the highest spec phone let alone the highest spec 5th edition

its also coming in at a very high price for technolagy that wont be the newest at release , for example the price of the n97 will get you pratically any handset on the market and there are higher spec handsets out there

there will more then likley be a few firmware issues allthough hopefully the 5800 has been testing ground for the n97 here and it may have quite stable firmware but if the firmware does have some major bugs then you can bet that nokia support disscussions will have newbies galore moaning about them putting off other buyers of the handset

with hardware/software moving so fast then nokia are taking a risk releasing the flagship phone with specs lower then the rivals allready i mean after the n97 has been out for a month or two whats to say that in sept/oct a rival will release spec of a new handset that will trump the n97 in every single department

iam hoping the n97 sells well for nokia but i think that its a bit risky and it defently wont stay the flagship handset for long as nokia will have to up the anti to keep up with the oposistion

it is growing on me , love the mass storage , screen size , slide/tilt looks cool , widgets look fun , i just think nokia will have a new one out pretty soon maybe one with the n86 camera and touch screen without the tilt keyboard so basically like the 5800 but just higher end with better camera etc
