I thought multi-touch wasn't possible on a resistive screen? So how could software enable this?

Download this and tell me multitouch isn't doable right now with current hardware ;)

Space Dancer s60v5 game

I have this installed on my N97 as well, cool little music game even if it wasn't an amazing multitouch demo... and showcasing what the non-multitouch resistive S60v5 phones can really do.

That's not real multitouch.. it's a "trick"
All the buttons have to be placed so that the are no exactly opposite from each other.

When you click on more than one place the screen registers a click in the middle of them. The software works out which two buttons it is by using this single "middle press". That's why the buttons are in the corners and stuff and not just in a line.

iam intrested in this

is this true , just an effect??

or can it be achieved for real??

iam genuinely intrested wether it can be achieved via firmware or wether itll need hardware ie a new handet

if it was included would it be just the effect version??

iam guessing the update will happend soon but its got blown out of porportion

id hope the just fix the stabillity of the widgets and destinations to start with to be honest , for nokias sake as whats the first thing you see when you turn it on , the widgets , how long before they mess up , not long thats for sure , not good for the general public that want it to just work and not hunt through forums :-)

Personally, I don't think that they'd be able to do it through software update, everywhere on the net says that it can't be done. I've looked at the actual specifics of the resistive touch screen and it isn't possible without other hardware, it is being developed though.. Multi-touch comes to resistive touchscreens | UMPCPortal - Smart, Mobile and Internet-Connected (the first link I found)

As if Nokia would release a phone, with hardware embedded that lies dorment for 6 months until they release firmware to utilise it..

Ha ha ha ha haaaaaa ...

It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

Of course it is a trick, but it also works. Nokia would only have to do something similar to this to get it to work in key applications, such as the photo-browser and etc. Seriously, that's all it needs to do. The system can be done elegantly enough that it works just like true multi-touch. If this is something a single programmer can do, think about what a team of talented OS engineers can get away with. I wouldn't be put off by this "trick," it shows what can be accomplished with good programming.
