My first few days with the N97

Ok so its a good phone and I'm sure when the new uk firmware comes out a few little bugs will be fixed.

What I have found do far.

1. The back light sometimes fails to light up when unlocking the phone.

2. Nokia browser crashes quite often when during heavy use.

3. The widgets quite often fail to update due to internet connection problems. Even if i have a strong 3g signal they fail to load or dont update.

4. Boingo. I cant remove the application and because I opened it it has now pinned itself as an access point with top priority and again I cant remove it.

5. When browsing videos there is no option to send them in any way (Bluetooth mms etc). You have to go into the file manager to do so.

6. Biggest disappointment is I cant use skyfire as they have no 5th gen edition. Not a nokia problem but still very disappointing as the nokia browser is still fairly limited.

7. When browsing contacts you are unable to see full contact details ( e mail address, notes, birthday etc) unless you select edit. Screen is big enough so why is this.

8. Battery life not that good.

9. Signal quality is very temperamental. Not sure if this is the phone or the network.

10. FM transmitter - nice touch but signal far to weak.

There are lots of real good points to the phone but it's not that different to my old Nokia n95, it doesn't do any thing that my 95 couldn't do except it does it with a touch screen. The hype that surrounded this phone and the costs involved I expected it to be making my breakfast in the morning.

Any way I've only owned the phone for 4 days so maybe it things will get better. I intend to keep it and im sure with its massive storage, ease of use and updates that are pending ill start to love it in time.

Right I'll stop ranting.

All of these Firmware can fix. Im surprised to hear about your battery life not being up to scratch, I have been quite impressed with my battery performance to be honest.

Hey! don't knock it... The problems described at least indicate that they are consistent in this model!

BTW, how's your review coming along Micky?

yeah my battery life is really good to be honest

used the usaul s60 power settings , screen brightness down , gprs to when needed not when avalible , wifi off , bluetooth off , blah blah blah

and the battery is great infact after having the n95-1 and n96 with 950mah battery this 1500mah battery feels like a power station on my handset :-) lol

It takes a fair few charge cycles to maximise the battery life. My N95 battery got better over a period of months!
