N97 Touch screen just stopped working?

i went to the mall today the touch was working properly in the car after leaving it in my pocket for 2 hours without touching it it suddenly stopped working. the middle screen sometimes work if you press really hard but the red and green button dont work. the menu button work tho. im so mad because the phone is new. i reinstalled the firmware but still dont work i took the batt and sim out but still didnt work. any ideas?

wasn't it working when it allowed you to reinstall the firmware?

other than that, you could try a reset.

even a reset doesn't work...

This happens to me sometimes but it just works when I re-restart it
Take your phone to a Nokia Care centre, you should get a replacement

Im 100% sure that the screen plug got disconnected. When I opened my phone I tested some stuff, I ran the phone witht the main screen plug disconnected and I had a phone without touchscreen. And I also discovered that it is very easy to disconnect it by itself

can you fix it your self? cause there is no nokia service center in san diego so i have to send it in... and also will nokia fix it? or will they replace the device?

I wudnt say that this works for sure but for me it did .. I had the exact same problem the touch screen stopped working completely on my 97 except for the middle which worked only if u pressed really hard.. to be honest i had taken my phone to the beach that day and i saw a nasty scratch on the screen and figured that this somehow affected the phone .. THIS was NOT the cause ... I got my phone to work again, by one removing battery and sim and then obviosly re-inserting them.. then when the phone turns on .. in my case i enter a code .. to this use the keyboard.. .to enter the code dont press the return button on the keyboard just press the middle button in the navigation pad... form then on the phone should turn on .. in my case the touch screen slowly became active again and i was able to press the screen normally after a while .. if it does not respond immewdiately ... keep navigatin with the keyboard for a while or try again removing batter anb sim ... i think this problem has to do with the firmware update from nokia cause is when the problem started for me ... the firware version 12.0.... the fact that i had a scratch had nothgin to do cause smartphones have a protective layer plus the phone is resistive not capacitve.. anyways try my solution i hope it works for u cause i felt like crying when my phone just basically died.. good lauck m8

Welcome to the frustration club; sofar I am a member of the touchscreen club, the lens scratch club, and the N97 re engineering club. No joke, I know how it feels, the same happened to me after only 1 week, and not wasting your time, you can read about it in this forum. If you have warranty rights, claim your rights. After all, I have studied this telephone down to the microscopic level, and changing the touch screen is not being made easy by Nokia.
Believe it or not, if you study both these repair manuals on this forum, they actually not "touch" the item how to change the touch screen!! It is after all the whole front, but not the complete front if you understand me.Clearly, if you order a complete front including the touch screnn it is not complete There is, belive it or not 17 parts in this front that should not be reused, and therefor put in the garbage!! A big environmental problem.....
Also they are not mentioned how you replace the button on the left lower side (you will have to remove 2 extremely small o-rings) Also there is the lightguide for the green and red "buttons" that has to be removed and replaced. And I could have continued (after all, it is only "stupid" people like my that changes the complete front, but I will of course reuse all parts!!!) Good luck anyway what you choose to do....
If you want to take the step to doing it yourself, you are of course welcome to ask me.....

But my nokia n7 touch screen stops work when I open keyboard... :(
When keyboard is closed everything works fine.
Have you any idea?
