Are we sure N97 mini is being announced? Or is it somebodies thoughts? Maybe we will all be surprised and it not appear?

I think Nokia are losing the plot BIG TIME!

Check this out: Nokia Internet Tablet (N900/Rover) Images | The Symbian Blog

So if the mini is real, they will have:

The N97 mini - Qwerty enabled browsing, GPS, Camera and phone
The N97 - Qwerty enabled browsing, GPS, Camera and phone
The 'Rover' / N900 - Qwerty enabled browsing, GPS, Camera and phone

Two devices based on Symbian and one on their own home-baked Linux distro for devices.

For one thing, all three seem targeted at the same user group. For another, if you are using Linux why not pick up an existing well supported platform, like Android? A case of "not invented here" methinks.

I can see Maemo ending up as the betamax of mobile phone OSes...

but maemo isnt a phone os
its a device os. lunux variant.

so any phone functionality will be an app - like the way windows CE became windows mobile.

nasty.

the N810 was a fantastic little device, but maemo always felt very homebrew and beta

I'm not keen on Samsungs tho- so its better for me to wait, use my N95 for a bit longer and buy a new Nokia when they get their act together.
I'm keeping the faith for the moment...

Same here, still using th n82 though instead of the n95 8gb as my primary device.. I quite like the n86 but still, there's only a few things it can do which the n82 can't. the compass and the fm transmitter, no big deal. The improved and much faster web browser, well I hope nokia will give that as update for their older phones which are defintely still capable of such apps.
We still have a long wait 'til September...
