Nokia N97 Mini to debut at Nokia World

Sounds credible ... note the price drop & the removal of the lens cover.

Nokia N97 Mini set to debut at Nokia World | News | TechRadar UK

Quote:
Rumours of a Mini version of Nokia's N97 have been given more credibility after further details of the leak emerged.

Respected industry insider Eldar Murtazin says the new phone will land at Nokia World in Stuttgart at the beginning of September, with a €100 (£80) price reduction to boot.

Other features lost in the shrink-down include less memory (down to 8-16GB from 32GB) and no lens cover on the camera (we're assuming that's a particularly pricey part of the N97).

Slimmed down

The keyboard, as we said before, is slimmed down to lose the D-pad, and the screen has lost a bit of an inch in order to make the phone more pocket friendly.

According to Murtazin the leak of the new device was actually from Nokia itself, in order to stave off another competitor bringing out a 'Mini' (we think it may be Samsung with the i5700 Lite version of the i7500 Galaxy).

But anyway, we'll be there on the scene at Nokia World should this phone land, and we'll bring our usual in depth hands to make it feel like your actually holding it in your hands.

Probably the biggest mistake Nokia have done to date IMO.

couldnt agree more bart

what a waste of time

and as a unhappy n97 user id much prefer it if they concentrated on getting the original right first

what about the people who dont like the n97 and want an upgraded 5800 or a n82 style phone with better camera and xenon

nokia are loosing the plot at the minute

How a company can be this stupid just defies me.

Why why why spend development time making a mini version of what is by many people's accounts* a failure when they could be making something someone wants?

Even if the N97 mini is good, it's just going to pee off everyone who has an N97.

Surely it's a no win whatever way you look at it.

I just can't fathom it, and when/if Nokias smartphone share plunges next revision, I won't have any sympathy.

*Before I get flamed, many people on this forum have returned the N97 more than once, and some are even reverting to trading standards/ sale of goods act to get refunds.

Course, the irony is not lost on me.

It's missing the 'lens protection' the larger N97 has.

Check out this latest issue:

www.symbian-freak.com :: View topic - Warning for N97 Users

It's not N97 specific, but... involves the charging adapter in the box. Looks like they're susceptible to meltdown. I'm pretty sure that could ruin your phone, and or burn down your living space.
