I believe the N97 deserves a chance. While I agree it should have worked much much better than it did out of the box I have faith still in it with future firmware upgrades. The fact we shouldn't have to wait is a moot point - we have to. This doesn't make the N97 a poor phone, it can and will improve, it makes Nokia a poor company to trust buying a new piece of kit from.

Sadly there are serious hardware issues as well.

Send a message via Skype™ to roberth
ive never hidden the fact that im a fanboy.....
yes ill continue to defend the device against blatant "it is rubbish" posts...
on the other hand im also a consumer and £500 doesnt come so easy.....
so i have also CONSTRUCTIVELY criticised the device....
and tried not to be too bias...
the author of this thread asked what he must do to get his device in working
order.....i gave him advice.....unlike others whos only post contain how much
they dont like the device....heres a simple solution....you dont like the device?
sell it!!!! and stop going on about how much rubbish it is.... and yet continue to use
it on a daily basis....then complain they dont like it.....irony at it best!
others here actually like theirs and try to offer advice to others who
need help and share ideas and hints.....
agreed that it shouldnt be causing so many problems out of the box...
but they are ways to get it working.....and that is what im here for....to help

"if youre not part of the solution, youre part of the problem"

Sorry, but this is annoying me more and more. If it's misbehaving about various things, then it's a bad phone. A potential firmware update yet to appear does not change this.

It's been out for 2 months or more, and until it actually gets this update, it's pretty much a bad phone.

This is of course, assuming the update fixes all the issues and we are also not including the hardware problems.

I've owned this since it was released..and followed many forums..maybe it's the early AM for me, but other than the camera lens cover getting scratched (which doesn't seem to cause any problems with photo quality anyway), what hardware problems that would be considered serious?

I'm actually getting quite bored with the same spamming over and over on every thread that mentions the N97.

It really puts me off commenting to help users to get problems resolved :(
