Cannot replicate Nokia tune issue

As a Test Engineer i'm very interested to see what's causing it, first thing come to mind was 3rd party apps screwing it up

So my test setup:

N97 hardreset to v12 with nothing installed except Gravity + ProfiMail + X-plore
Change the General profile to set my N97 to a custom tune from a .mp3 imported into the device
Nothing else running in the background, just Gravity, Home + Menu
I had Gravity on homescreen + 1 contacts thing

Use my other phone, called my N97 40+ times

Result: phone rang with custom ringtone everytime

My instinct is that the 3rd party apps are screwing it up, I don't think it's the firmware.
I'm using v12.0.026 with PC 0585162 and phone isn't hacked.

Could I ask those who got the problem to tell me when the default tone occured:
1. what applications do you have installed on your n97?
2. what apps were running in the background?
3. check that the contact called you doesn't have Nokia ringtone assigned

Well as I said in my post, since changing the outdoor profile to play my chosen tune, I have not had the problem. the only programmes running are the usual after a reset: menu, contacts, clock etc. Oh, and also Handy Task..... maybe this is the culprit, eh?

I changed any ringtone in any profile from the nokia tone to the one I want, and so now we'll see what happens.

It's not handy taskman, I'm using the 2.02 touch version (the one with no big text) and I have no problems

Did you test it whilst the phone was locked? i.e. blank screen etc

It only happens on my phone when it's been locked for a few minutes, if I've got the phone in my hand, with the screen on etc waiting for a call it always plays the correct ring tone. I believe it has something to do with the phone's ability to bring itself out of sleep and play a custom ring tone at the same time. It's probably memory related. There just isn't enough.

Interesting...so I have any and all ring tones set to anything but the nokia tune..and yesterday while the phone is locked (for about 10 minutes) I get a call and it rings with the Nokia tune..so weird. Can that stupid jingle be deleted?

Today mine rang again with the Nokia "noise" instead of my chosen tone, so back to square one. After it did this I checked on programmes running, apart from the ones that are always running after a reset, I saw that music player was still open (forgot to switch it off yesterday) so I guess memory was short and it resorted back to default. Phone was locked by the way (black screen).

I use, apart from standard apps, Handy tasman, Handy Safe, Truphone, SymSMB, Quick Office, Profimail, DeviceInfo (think that's all)

I'm thinking because Music Player is using your chosen tone (guessing your tone is .mp3)
The N97 cannot use it as it's protected so it uses the default one instead.

Surely this is a permission issue and can easily be fixed.
