Ahhh welcome to the nightmare called the N97. Just when you think you have it all sorted out you have to hard reset again. GL.

I have just updated N97 using PC Suite to V20. Update was uneventfull but now it wont start - just says something like "Memory full delete some data from C drive".
I have tried the reset mentioned earlier Shift + Backspace + Space + Power button but it just turns the phone off. It starts again with the memory complaint. I can't use *#7370# as there is no on screen keypad and although I have tried on the keyboard you can't see what you type but nothing happened (maybe tryped it wrong twice). I can connect via PC Suite but what do I delete, and how? Can't do it on the phone, but on PC Suite I can't see any data anyway. All folders appear empty except for a 'startup video' and it won't let me delete that anyway. If I have installed anything I have always chosen Mass Memory. I cannnot do anything on the phone now, not even see the home screen or menu, so what do I do? Allan |

Check and see which folders hold any files that can be freed up. Normally Images, Video, Sound, Installs etc can be removed without issues relate to phone boot up

Thanks for the reply! None of the folders have anything in them except Video and that was the 'startup' movie which it will not let me delete.
However I was able to delete SMS history on PCV Suite and also find the Install Applications which gave me a list of applications on the phone, so I deleted some of the useless ones (useless to me anyway - such as Facebook, Slideshow etc) and managed to free up 19MB - enough to allow it to start up and everything seems back to normal. I was then able to delete web history and cache and now have 25.8MB. Do you know if there a way to get web history etc to save to the mass memory instead of the phone memory? Allan |

I don't think so but I have about 40Mb free so you can move most apps, SMS, to mass memorry.

I was able to find a part answer tpo the question in this blog (How To Recover Phone Memory On Your Nokia N97 | The Symbian Blog) along with some other tips, so hopefully I am on top of it now.
I really cant understand (presumanbly I am not the only one!!) how they could allocate so little memory to phone operations, when there is so much available!! Thanks everyone for your help. I have another issue (to do with time) but will post that separtely. No response on the Nokia forum to it so will try here. Allan |
