Cool Nokia 3710 - GPS licence

I have this model and the instructions to purchase a licence are clear. The problem is that Israel does not appear in the group of permitted countries for purchase. If I ask my carrier to connect to the Internet (which is blocked at present because I have no need for Internet in my phone) will I be able to activate the Maps and the GPS which are an integral part of this model?
Waiting for some response and thank you in advance.

Why would you need a licence, Nokia Maps are free ?

I have no access to the GPS or the maps without a licence. This is how it works here - maybe Israel has special models made for this country....
    Thanks for your fast response,

if you have to get a liscence then i believe that connecting to the internet was the way to do it when it was done like this

because of your location its hard for us to help fully but when i had a n85 and need a liscence it was done through an internet connection then through the maps application , maybe in your country it is still done like this??

its worth a go if you need it badly mate

if you can maybe use a wifi access point if that model has wifi if it doesnt then iam afraid using your telephones internet connection might be the only way

have a great day and let us know how you get on

many thanks for the detailed response. Lot's of good people around!
I suspected it might be thru' an Internet connection and you have more or less just confirmed it. The question still remains whether I have to use their program or I can use my "maps". That remains to be tested.
    Thanks again,
    RY

Thank you for your very fast response.
    The story is this.
My carrier is a company called Cellcom. I have never used Internet in my phone - I have Int access thru' other computers (laptop etc) I activated Internet to use GPS for a complicated journey that I was planning and then because I was using the carriers Int I was obliged to download (free) their Navigator program which is useless. It sent me round in circles on that particular day (lucky we had a mapbook backup), and when we tried using it again it it had a fright fit on a toll road ( for which we have autocharge) and got stuck. So what I mean is: I hope that if I open Internet only, will I hve access to all that the "Maps" :: has to offer. Can anyone answer that?confused::confused

right i see so the software you are using is not nokia maps or ovi maps then

have you tried using nokia maps does it come pre installed on the 3710?? from what i am reading it should come pre installed on that device out of the box

here is a guide on uisng nokia maps for s40 devices Nokia Europe - About positioning methods it might be worth having a read of that

so basically dump the networks app and try to be using nokia maps we can help you with this program much more as we know about it and use it

with nokia maps you dont need an internet connection , sometimes search works better with it enabled but you should load the maps onto your phone via your pc then open up maps program and it should work for you

1st we need to know do you have nokia maps on your phone or has it been removed in your country

---------- Post added at 06:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 PM ----------

ive just done some reading and it seems like nokia maps doesnt have maps of israel yet even though navteq have just updated their israel maps Nokia Support Discussions - When there will be Maps for Israel roads?? - Nokia Support Discussions

however there is another app you could try that should install on your phone as its j2me software and the 3710 allows this software to run , it can be used in offline mode , it is freeware made by consumers for consumers and it has a website up and running here FreeMap Israel

if you dont have nokia maps on your phone it could be worth trying the other one i have linked alot of people have been saying its good sat nav for israel i havent used it obvously but with some of the comments posted it might be pretty good for you

I have Nokia Maps. I also have OVI. I have not tried Ovi because that needs Internet access which is not connected at the moment.
I as yet have not been able to access the maps because returning to my first subject the system sends me into a request for licence purchase.
Google Earth is at present , in these months mapping Israel and this will be a free service but it is not ready yet. I have been supposing that "licence" = Internet when regarding GPS/Israel. I must remind you that 3710 is a fold, not an Iphone and I do not know (or have not attempted to download Apps of any kind onto this phone. Till now it has been just that. A phone.
As a previous message suggested I have deleted the Navigator that Cellcom sent me.
I have saved the link you sent me and noted the name of the software. Please give me time to try out theses options and I will send some feedback with my progress.
Thank you all for your interest and your assistance.

you may struggle to find nokia maps israel maps from what iam reading if this is the case try that other free software

take your time messing around with it and iam sure you will get there :-) keep us updated when you get a chance as having sat nav on your phone is always handy and a great little feature :-)

I share your problem with my Nokia 3710. I have been using the GPS in New Zealand for a year but the licence has now expired and the phone is asking me for a renewal at $14.99. I have renewed the maps with Nokia suite. when I get to the place asking me to chose between Visa, Mastercard or Amex nothing happens. I can log onto other webbsites so I know it is not a connection problem. Last night I spent about 2 hours being "helped" by the Nokia help desk, I think in the Phillapines, (English accent difficult to follow) but I am no further ahead except I now have a reference number if I have another 2 hours to spare and have another try.
It is an obvious software problem. I wonder if anyone else has solved it?
