bart -- this is complete guess work on my behalf but i would think we should hear something in febuary at the mobile confrence . i would expect to start seeing the new ui from q1/q2 in symbain v3 format ie multi touch etc its probbaly why they started using the capatative screen on the x6 due to multi touch coming and threm heading down that route

in the video they say the final stages symbian 4 will be complete this time next year. with symbian 3 allready being nearly complete so i would expect to start seeing devices real soon from nokia supporting this ne3w improoved symbian ui , even though people think that the ''n87'' is fake i would expect to see a simmilar device from nokia running this new symbain ui by the spring/ summer if not then nokia will be playing catch up even more

it would make sense for that sort of timescale to take place

i think its moving quite fast behind the scenes of nokia at the minute , well lets be honest it has too doesnt it , the new ui looks like it has been worked on for some time and talked about by nokia alot , that video doesnt just happend its been ongoing work that they have bought to the forefront probably due to symbian taking a real bashing of late

fingers crossed its soon bart

xmas is like 3 weeks away so the new year less then a month so febuary isnt that far away really

From Mobile Sweden

was on Mobil's developer conference in Stockholm yesterday
that Symbian Mark Wilcox talked about the future of the system

A host of news to come already with Symbian ^ 3, with phones that will come in autumn next year.

Among other things, there should be a central place in the phones' settings
in which to put logged in to social services such as Facebook and Twitter.

There will be several startup screens where you can add their widgets and icons.
In addition, it only required one click to start a function in the menus - you should not need to double click today.
To zoom in and out, they can use two fingers and pinch the screen - as the iPhone and HTC Hero.

With Symbian ^ 3 is also in support of the NFC - Near Field Communications.
It can be used for example to pay for bus or subway ticket by waving the phone over the ticket barrier.
But NFC is now also making all connections between mobile phones and other electronics simpler.

- NFC is not just about mobile payments. This allows easier handling of bluetooth.
You should be able to just click on the screen to quickly transfer music sound from phone to stereo headphones.
Or click to quickly pass on his business card, "said Mark Wilcox.

With the new Symbian will also get better battery life, although cell phone use electronics to keep an eye on your geographic location.
Positioning functions are an important part of the development of new Symbian.

Even the built-in support for multimedia will be expanded.
Among other things, to the Symbian build in support for recording HD video and play video files that are over 2 gigabytes large,
namely high-definition feature films in the same video format as you have on your computer.

Autumn 2010

Operatisystemet Symbian will come in versions 3 and 4 next year, said Mark Wilcox.
First up are mobiles with Symbian 3 which will come in autumn.
The big change - where the entire menu interface is made of - comes with the Symbian 4 turn of the year 2010-2011.

Marc Wilcox showed, among other things,
how the Symbian 4 are directly in the phone's basic mode can select from a drop-down menu at the top of the phone between different modes,
such as an Augmented Reality mode, where the phone indicates the reality through the camera lens,
with an automatically imposed upon layer of information about reality (for example, if you stand in front of the restaurant).

Symbian phones will come to be in all price ranges from 1000 SEK to 4500 SEK,
but Nokia expects the new Linux-based Maemo will take over a big piece of the market
for Nokia's smart phones in this price range 4000-5500 Swedish crones.

From Sony Ericsson Satio - Nya Symbian: Inga dubbelklick och nya menyer

The best part in my view, is the price for this new symbian smartphones
a price range between 80GBP-390GBP.

Sounds that evrybody can afford a good smartphone after the summer

I hope so too as Mark Wilcox say in the post above >

Today I see this from a busniess magasin in Finland

Mobile phone giant Nokia's Chief Technology Officer, David Rivas,
Nokia's promising to bring Symbian OS-based devices the user experience Maemo, Android and Apple's level.

- Nokia previously focused on the broad product offerings, and it limited the ability to see the company's priorities and important issues.
Symbian has gone to some extent ahead of the renewal. It is not unreasonable to argue that we have been late in development in some areas.
The market has changed, said Rivas, Las Vegas, recently organized at the annual CES trade fair.

Rivas points out that the necessary technologies have been theirs. Now it is just the re-organization of things.

Rivas promising two new versions of the Symbian operating system this year.
According to him, invest in the new availability of cell phones by force,
in order to be used for the chassis to become competitive in relation to existing platforms.

- Completely re-design the user interface. We focus on a multi-purpose, dynamic user experience,
and give priority to the introduction of all the heart.

Symbian comes out top for mobile advertising

Operating system beats Android and Apple for number of ‘click throughs’

Mobile operating system Symbian has come out top of a report of mobile advertising click through rates (CTR),
beating rivals Apple and Android.

The Mobile Advertising Metrics report by Smaato showed the average CTR on ads for all mobile platforms set to 100.
Symbian was by far the leading platform with a score of 161, while the iPhone got a lower score of 119 (see chart).

Symbian said: ‘Naturally, it’s very encouraging to see Symbian excel in the
click through rates – a statistic that certainly reinforces our leading position in the smartphone market.
The high rate of click throughs will be in no small part to the flexibility and level and interaction available on our platform.

‘It is now critical that we do not rest on our laurels,
but build on this momentum and strive towards our goal of making our platform completely open to the developer community,
which will undoubtedly increase this flexibility and interaction.

‘We believe that the future of mobile is indeed open, in order to instill creativity,
foster innovation and ensure the developer community has the optimal platform
to continue evolve the mobile phone at the rate we have experienced over the past ten years.’

from Symbian top for mobile advertising

I thought android should have much more of interest ?
