Thats freaking brilliant. This should be made standard when selling second hand phones.
I do not give instructions on how to bypass satnav copy protection. So please do not ask via forum or PM.

I suspect this reflects the status as out of the box, not sure this checks the part of the Nokia database where the information about updating firmware is recorded.

We might have to wait for Gaz to compare results from the database NSCs access when registering a unit for repair in order to be sure about this particular issue.

Until then I would consider this information as a useful tool to establish:

    a) if the unit is genuine
    b) age of unit
    c) for which market was it produced and where is the warranty valid.

No one so far has posted about a model for which it doesn't, but I cannot guarantee anything.

im surprised none of you are worried about typing your imei into a non secure and non nokia website to be honest, however it does appear genuine in this instance.

You mean after hundreds of people sent their IMEIs off to a anonymous Chinese website to get their applications signed ?

More to the point, wouldn't you think that all the IMEI are already in that database including additonal information about the handsets, so by typing them in we are hardly disclosing anything not already there ?

yep that too, still a risk however small. Personally I used symbiansigned and then hacked my phone when that became available

    I'm guessing you've not had a phone imei cloned, I have (a 6680 imei)

you're assuming that there is a database and you aren't just typing your imei into some harvesting tool that is set up to appear to be a warranty database.

as i said in this case it appears genuine and harmless (as various communities have so far agreed) but caution is sensible, nonetheless

I can confirm this shows accurate warranty information and it does show it in the same format that the Nokia database does !
However it does not show you repair and update information so as stated above it will not tell you if a handset has had a change of product code or a list of problems as long as your arm.
This is a very useful tool to check the warranty dates on any handsets you wish to buy or to check whether warranty repairs will be free prior to taking the phone to a nsc.
all in all an excellent resource
I would certainly say this appears to be a database based upon the phone "as manufactured" as the format is almost a copy/paste of the Nokia service info

technically the warranty is void but I wouldn't worry too much at the moment as it is not something that is being too actively enforced at the moment

Dayene - the US has user warranty not 25 months warranty as manufactured like European handsets !
I do believe that you guys have a warranty for 12 months which starts when you register your phone with the US Nokia database

this warranty thing has been bugging me all day so i thought i would give my phone a good workout and check everything worked. it turns out that when using my phones (n95-1) video function the red light doesnt come on to indicate it is recording as per this thread a little further digging revealed that my phone has had this hardware hack carried out on it already. needless to say i will be on the phone tomorrow to get it exchanged. i am very dissapointed in carphone wharehouse at this point.

Shocking my friend, but as already said, its not the first time a refurbished handset has been sold as new, and it won't be the last.

What does the phone indicate when you enter the Life Timer code?

    *#92702689#

Number displayed will be in hours, and minutes.

To find your Nokia Firmware version, key *#0000#. The V##.#.### shown is your current Firmware! Please add these details with Nokia model to your profile. This information will help others help you. Thank you.!

2 hours 33 minutes use from either new, or since timer was reset last. Have you used the phone this much?

To find your Nokia Firmware version, key *#0000#. The V##.#.### shown is your current Firmware! Please add these details with Nokia model to your profile. This information will help others help you. Thank you.!

the store manager seemed to have! to remind the sales assistant that "we do not sell reconditioned phone's as that would be in breach of the trade descriptions act, change the handset if we have one in stock" and the sales assistant then seemed to have to ask his manager "if this IMEI was infact a new IMEI?" this of course all seemed like code to me but i dont care i have my new handset.

The site has been down quite a while now. Seems no one can use it at the moment, no doubt they are aware of this and will be working on it.

Or, which seems more likely, Nokia has stuck the boot in!

Well I dropped them an E-Mail and they got back to me saying basically " We're aware of the issue and are working on it. Stay tuned for more info"

Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Assuming that it hasn't been tampered-with, hence perhaps voiding the Nokia warranty, the warranty is in force for 25 months from the date of issue in the UK.

As none of the N95-series were available even two years ago, I think it's safe to say that it's still under warranty.
