How to hard reset/format S40 Nokia handset?

*#7370# doesn't work, is there an alternative for S40 handsets ? I need to wipe clean a 6500s.

Does the trick of power it off, hold down - green (dial) + * and 3 - and then power on work?

No, these methods work only on Symbian, which S40 isn't.

That's soft reset to factory settings Sam and it still only works on Symbian.

I was hoping for a way which does not include the risk of bricking the phone during reflashing.

I always thought S40 would use the same reset codes obviously not.

I somehow suspected that was the case, thanks.

I think I have my answer, so I guess mods could close this thread.

Nothing mentioned there does a hard reset. No problem, it's not that urgent anyway, just wanted to be ready when the phone will be sold.

Let me clear your doubts about s40.
s40 is Symbian Series 40,and its highest running version is s40v6.
I dont believe, that you didnt knew that.
And when it comes to soft/hard reset codes there are different codes for s40 and s60.
and *+call+3,works with both s40 and s60 my friend.
In s60,you have to press these three keys at simultaneously, while the phone is booting up;and in s40 you have to press the keys in when at home screen.

S40 is NOT Symbian. S40 is a Java based UI

SXX is a user interface, not an OS version. S60 isn't Symbian, it is the UI that runs atop of Symbian v9.x.

Anyways, last S40 device I needed to wipe I just debranded the thing, much better all round.

As we appear to have amassed a veritable plethora of information on this particular subject, it seems a good time to take notice of the OPs' earlier suggestion that the thread may be closed....
