It would be good to see a top-of-the-range music phone, with a faster cpu, gfx chip and FM tx, at least that would stand a chance of it incorporating half-way decent speakers, unlike the 2 N97's & the N900! Preferably NOT linked to that infernal CWM either!

BUT, my five-bob is on another N97-format type with some much-needed improvements within! I can't see Nokia easily abandoning that type of casing-format, given the right internals, it could still be a winner... A candy-bar AND a hard keypad combined, to all intents & purposes.

That, or yet another cut-down, low-price touch-screen device...

Nah. I'm sure theres enough out already, unless of course they are being quick with the first symbian foundation phone. In which case we could well see another 5800 alike.

I think my guess was right then, some V5 devices. Probably some more N series ones, assuming they are carrying on with that type.

Given the free release of Ovi Maps, I'd probably get one if it's got a decent spec over the 5800. Not happy about using V5 over the new OS's out, but with no more satnav worries and the possibility of a decent camera coming up I'd be happy.

This is of course, if the price is right.

I really hope so, but from what that mobile site said, i.e. good handsets but nothing amazing, I am guessing not.

Tell you what would be a killer for me. A decent specced handset with symbian foundation on.

With Ovi maps already done for it. Not likely given that it's not on Maemo yet, but still, there were echos of it being backwards compatible, so perhaps it's not much of a change for them to make.

    Can you imagine that though?

A well specced Nokia handset with an OS akin to Android (which is what the design plans looked like that Micky posted links too), which has free satnav software preinstalled.

Now that would well and truely put Nokia right back in the game.

    N87 symbian foundation. Yes please.

I really hope it's not a V5 N97i, because that would just be insult to injury for any N97 owners, and probably N97 mini owners too.

Micky, do you have any insider knowlage (that you can't share :P ) or is it all guesswork?

Arrghh, Tommie we established that's fake.

While it could be a 12mp toting Nokia, that document is nothing but a wishlist by someone, it bears no resemblence to anything in production.

In reality it could be a nice S40 phone, or a 2mp Symbian 3 phone.

We won't know till announcment, unless some real leaks come through.

iam staying open minded but i expect a mid range phone

i wouldnt be suprised to see another budget hybrid phone running s60 5th

i wouldnt get too excited though unless eldar was playing it down a bit or he was just dissapointed with it

If it was another 5800 for symbian 3, I'd probably buy it. It might not fullfill my hardware requirements, but I was extremely happy with the 5800, and that was just to try it out. I never intended it to be my main phone.

Thing was, what wasn't Elder impressed about? Hardware? OS? Both?

    Only 4 more days.

I hope not. They've already got too many variations on that theme with mildly varying specs - 5230, 5530, 5800, X6, N97 Mini, N97 - all very, very similar phones with minor spec differences.

One thing is for sure - the free Ovi Maps is going to make a massive difference. Assuming that Nokia can actually market it. Problem is that Nokias marketing department couldn't even give food to a starving man, whereas Apples marketing dept can sell sand to arabs .....

I'm not expecting anything major, or particularly interesting, but one things for sure - I'm now definitely staying with Nokia for the forseeable future.

Assuming your talking about Maps, I find that very interesting. The fact that you are sticking with Nokia now due to the free satnav makes me wonder just how many people will do the same.

One small ray of hope, as this announcement is timed for the day before the 'Big Apple Announcement', hopefully it's intended to steal some of the thunder from Apple, who are expected by some to include details about the forthcoming 4G iPhone... To do this successfully it needs to be something pretty impressive... We can only wait & see!

Me too - I was starting to consider an Android device, never had any interest in the iPhone, but knowing that the Nokia products will have a usable, fairly well featured free satnav application changes things completely. At least for me.

Whilst this decision for free Ovi Maps makes some sense, I wonder if their timings have been pushed forwarad somewhat with the rumours of Apple announcements and the various legal battles that are around.

No, I'm pretty sure it's more to do with Google and their free satnav. If you look at the comments made by the Nokia guy on the Beeb, he mentions that the google satnav is data only, Ovi Maps allows you install maps on the device. Deliberatly comparing Ovi Maps to Googles recent accouncement of free satnav.

Ovi Maps is better than google ones in many ways, and they have been trumping that.

And it's a big thing for me too. While I have various satnav packages available to me, I want to use ones compatible with family, so if need be we can send location to one another.

I'm interested to know what's coming out... This "could" be something special.

However, as much as I hardly read Mobile-Review due to not be able to read russian and lack of updates in English until a week later, I do think that if it was something that was a not-yet released Nokia thing, i.e. Symbian ^3 or 12mp camera etc he would have been more excited.

Then again.. Who knows? Roll on the 26th I say!

Just another leak: is this what Nokia N87 12MP will look like? - GSMArena.com news

I suspect that was the fake one which has already been explained here many times. Though I notice the video has been taken down due to an apperent 'copyright claim by Nokia corperation'.

If it really was a Nokia document, it's had more spelling and grammar mistakes than I have seen in badly converted Chinese - English documents.

How I'd love to be wrong though. Assuming it doesn't have any issues (memory, build quality), I'd snap it up.

    to be honest bart mate

i still think it could be real

the paperwork is not important its for beta testers/prototype users , its not meant to bee seen by the public just the users of the prototype which would have been sworn to secrecy

maybe it is a chines knock off but i happend to think that alot of nokia phones are designed in finland and made in asia , if the prototype has been built in asia and the little booklet written there before being sent out to secret prototype users , then maybe it wasnt written by someone with the best english

maybe the n87 or whatever wont be released on the 26th but i still think that there has been too much pop out for the n87 and it is a real nokia device , i pretty much expect too see it soon to be honest

i know you think different mate and iam not saying your wrong but these are obvously just our opinions :-) be intresting to see what happends

I still doubt very much it's real Buxz, Nokia simply don't make mistakes like that spelling be in on documents not for the public or not. Nor would they use such language like they did. theres also a few other things in the document I won't say here which lead me to believe it's fake.

And of course, I can't see them adding an infra red function. That's almost impossible (I don't mean technically), unless of course Nokia are deciding to suprise us again and get innovative!

But then *if* it's actually Nokia that has requested it be taken down, perhaps it was close to something they are developing? I suppose it's possible they don't like people making up documents and saying it's from them either though.

Normally they might not have seen it, but I have reason to believe that they have been looking at the forum recently, and of course they would have seen that link (it was a main news article too, on the front page).

I have little doubt a N87 or whatever 12mp designation is underway. But it's these documents I don't trust.

I really don't think it's true, and although we know theres something appearing on the 26th, the ones that seemingly know about it do not seem excited.

The one time I have been majorly wrong was about the 5800 - I said there was no way they could do that spec for that price, I was dead nuts wrong.

Lets hope I'm wrong again eh

I'd love a touchscreen 8mp device with xenon and infrared. That really would make me happy, and also the HD recording. Tbh, give it a better OS, and that's almost my dream handset. I kid you not. I might not believe it's real, but I hope it is.

Oh yes, in fact I have said before (yet again, sorry) that I long suspected not everything was actually leaked.

But generally that's not had such errors seen on whatever pops up. And of course, some things are not meant to be released...err, leaked.

Remember the roadmap? That obviously wasn't, and they went round chasing places that put it up, however futile that is once something is on the net.

That's not to say Nokia haven't gotten extremely devious though.

Perhaps it was meant to look as it did in order to get us all debating it. or maybe it's just to take attention off elsewhere?

In order to pre-empt Apples' Wednesday announcements maybe?

A crude form of 'night-vision' needn't be particularly complex, all that's needed is to make the IR filter removable from the camera light-path.

Eldars' comment is not very inspiring though...

    Just had a thought.

I got an email a few days back, about the X6 availability from play.com.

What I didn't realise is, this is a 16GB version without CWM.

    Play.com (UK) - Mobile - Free Delivery

Is this what's going to be announced? It would explain Elder being unimpressed.

Nokia have either plugged their leaks well or the announcement is so uninspiring it's not worth the effort or risk for the 'mole'.

Well, bar any announcement before 29/03 this year, I'm getting this: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...%7Ccat:Mobile+

While it's running Symbian V5, it's a pocketable nice looking handset that records in HD. I am hoping that you can run Ovi Maps on it though. It's very annoying not even having dual LED, but the videos on the Omnia HD I had were so nice, I'd like to have that again. Plus I have a £30 play voucher

    My reasons for this:

It's very pocketable - the screen isn't massive and it's not very skinny, which will fit well into the hand. I quite value the way it feels.

    It looks understated.

It can (hopefully) get Ovi maps on there for free.

The HD recording is a really nice thing to have.

It's got an 8MP camera (which is hopefully good, and hopefully not as bad as the 5800 in poor light).

It's reasonably cheap, at least compared to the Nexus.

The Vivaz certainly looks the part, its a nice looking phone with some nice looking features.

I'm not holding my breath for a blow you away announcement from Nokia. Been pretty dissapointed with most of last years announcements. But hey, lets hope I'm proved wrong and it is something actually WORTH announcing.

It's not going to happen tomorrow anyway, like some said on here, there surely would have been more fuss about it if so.

I suspect that's what it is, but I can't think it's worth it really. It's still £300, and your not getting anything the 5800 hasn't got, bar 16GB of memory and a slightly better camera. No magnometer, no better processor...meh. You don't get the CWM with this edition.

I don't think it's got a card slot either, so your stuck to 16GB and no interchangable card. Boo hiss.

If it is the cut down X6, then it's a really bad time to announce it, with Apples one the next day. In fact they would be better off not bothering, because people will be saying 'Is that all they got to offer against Apple?'

Hopefully they have stashed away something big. But if I were a betting man...
