    5800 Compatible Apps

Thought it would be a good idea to make a list of all the applications
that are running on the S60 5th edition correctly
so far this is what ive got:

All Epocware applications (Handy Clock, Handy Shell, Handy Weather, etc...)

    JoikuSpot
    - 5800 version
    Skype: Java (so-so)
    Worldmate: - 5800 version
    IM+: - 5800 version
Geotagging: - s60v3 (okay but does not autostart)
Gizmo5: - s60v3 (java based but seems to work)
SMSChat: - 5800 version (beta but works okay)
    Dr. Jukka: - 5800 version (updated for S60 5th on Jan 18th)
FriendView: s60v3 (works but behaves strangely)

    Gypsii (comes in Downloads)
Opera Mini (seems to work sort of)
Audible Player (Java and works ok)
    Google Maps - 5800 (EXCELLENT)
Quick Office (DOWNLOADS Bandits, but the stuff works)
Qik Capture (works but I do not use it)
    Gmail (works as advertised)
Handwriting Cal (works but does anyone really care)
Adobe Reader (purchased a license and it works)
LCG Jukebox (works but is not developed for the touch screen)
PhoNetInfo (works for the most part)
Handy Taskman (I am using the s60v3 version and it works but....)
    Sudoku Master - 5800 version

    Update 10/1/09

Mobbler for Last.FM (Updated twice since the release of the 5800. They're on top of it, for sure.)
Guardian (Works brilliantly, fantastic app if you're worried about having your hot new Nokia stolen, or if you lose things.)
Profimail (works, but LCG really needs to update for touch. Get ready to pull out your stylus...
TextQuick (works great already, and the developer is planning on updating the interface for touch. I DEFINITELY recommend this app, especially if you only text a few people but have hundreds of contacts like myself.)
HandyShell (Mentioned above as "All Epocware"- but I want to specially note this one. I didn't care for it at all on S60v3 devices, but it absolutely makes sense on the 5800. The active standby screen is an incredible waste of real estate. If it's not on your 5800, grab the trial *RIGHT NOW*.)

    UPDATE 26/01/2009

MSN WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER(5th edition version-good)

    RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

    UPDATE 18/1/2009

    DrJukka Apps-

    Fake Messages v0.55
    Theme Scheduler v0.55
    Profile Scheduler v0.55

YBrowser is working for me- though the dev says he's working this week to update that as well. Dr Jukka's apps are unsigned.

    Please add to the list!

Cheers, roberth. There's a thread elsewhere that I've been following, but the compatible apps are scattered through about ten pages and inane discussion. There's no actual list going- just people saying what works and what doesn't work in each post. It's really quite a mess, unfortunately.

If anyone has anything to add to this list, post it and I'll update the main list in the original post.

BEWARE, the link for the MSN download is wrong.

Not only that but many of the links to the download on other sites and blogs are wrong too, some link to the 3rd edition version and others link to slick.

I did eventually find the version for 5th edition but it is a Chinese version and although works fine and in English, the 'home' page, add along the bottom and pre-installed groups are in Chinese. I also cant work out how to delete the groups.

It's also worth mentioning that if you install the 3rd edition you then cant remove it and have to resort to manually deleting the hidden files.

Can you explain which ones are wrong (and why) so I can take them off if needs be?

I think some of them are supposed to be for 3rd edition, its just that they work in some ways, even if not very well.

It would really help with a comprehensive list, with the following:

    App name

Brief description of what it does.

    Which version its meant for.

    How well it works.

    Download link.

That way, people who look at this page (and its a LOT more than just the regulars here, check the views) will know exactly what they are getting. I'll help as soon as I get my 5800, but thats not for a while yet.

Its just the MSN link that is wrong slick_symbian_lcg_0_45_www.dailymobile.se.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

I found a correct download here Windows MSN s60v5 - Noeman GSM after some searching and trial and error with 3rd edition versions.

I can confirm that the 3rd edition version of live messenger WONT work on 5th.

Mobiola screen capture - Not just capture images, but videos of what the screen is displaying.

While it says S60 V3, the 3.0.7 version is compatible with S60 V5.

Phonelocator works on the Nokia 5800. It shows full screen and runs in the background appropriately.

    Hmmmm......

This list looks interesting and familiar considering I compiled and wrote the original, but I guess it is okay that Robert "borrowed" my list.

I am not angry. I was just saying that I actually originated the first list as I tried all of those and additional apps on my 5800XM. I do not think Robert was implying that he wrote it. I was just giving him a bit of stick about it, but thanks.

Unfortunately I find that on the 5800 (fw v.10) the recordings are 'clipping' very badly indeed, whether recorded in AMR or WAV format and regardless of playback on either the in-built or native player.

    EDIT: Example AMR recording...

I have just installed the 5800 compatible version of Handy Shell..
Well I never paid more than a fiver for an app on a phone before but this thing is the dog's b*ll*cks! On that handset it is just great!
$45 is steep though...but when the 14 days trial ends I'll probably won't be able to do without!

Oh wow, do you know if that supports PPTP?

Edit: While it does say it supports all protocols, I have emailed them.

The 5800 will be perfect for work if so!

According to the site it does support PPTP/GRE VPN based networks in v2.4 which is the latest version available on the website.

Yes- Mobbler is updated quite regularly and is S60 5th compatible, however it's already in the list.

Have Psiloc updated their applications to be 5th compatible? I could really do with Psiloc Connect on this phone.

Not sure if these have been posted before, but Nokia India and Hong Kong have a load of 5800 applications available for download. Some may not work. Have a look:

Nokia India - Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - Download Applications

    Nokia - Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - Applications

Testing out a load of them now.

The guard application is only working for India sim cards. Touch Card works but only 3 levels which is not worth installing for. Marble won't load at all. Sms Timer works fine when activated on sending text it intercepts and asks if you want to schedule that msg or send immediately. Motion dice works but pretty pointless with no objective. Wave secure requires an India sim card. Popper, Piano and Guitar work, but not all that except for showing off hardware. Maneuver is pretty good and only one I've left installed.

Looks as though they are updating those pages, or there are a couple in there that I didn't notice before...

    Nokia handwriting calculator

    From Nokia beta labs.

Handwriting Calculator | Nokia Beta Labs

On the site it says it is for S60V5 & 5800. When installed it says not suitable for the phone but works anyway.

Used this on my N95 and just installed and working on my 5800:
SIC! Software GmbH - SIC FTP Client

Edit: Doesn't work 100% perfect, make sure you choose the Local directory on the phone before connecting the FTP server, and to change directory a tap doesn't work. You need to tap to select the hit "Options - Open"

Putty for S60 also works great:
    PuTTY for Symbian OS

Good app to use in landscape with the full qwerty keyboard.
