Ive tried google maps and it seems that it needs an internet connection to find your location rather than internal gps. So for someone like me on pay as you go its a waste of time.

Google uses the internet to load maps but uses the GPS on the phone to get the position.

I use google as the nokia thing never seems to work well for me.

If I need a quick lookup of maybe a restaurant or train I go to Google Maps. It finds a rough estimate of where you are real quick, but if i need directions to some place that I'm looking before I leave then I use Nokia Maps only cause I have a few states pre loaded into my phone so it's quicker then Google maps on loading the images. When I can easily skim through the images looking for something instead of waiting for it to load is a hellva lot simpler

Nokia Maps is now pretty good, the original version was pretty pants though.

Google maps would cost me a fortune in data.

When google launches that, and it will happen imo, that will be awesome. However for now Nokia maps search function is basically non-functional so I use google maps to find things then save as a fav and then find it in Nokia maps to navigate if I need to have voice nav-which is seldom. For day to day voice nav I find Wayfinder 7 to be the best all around app.

Of course..unlimited data is very useful. Without it google maps would be a problem to use
