I've been searching and searching for the 'best' password manager for my needs. I was previously using Keyring on PalmOS on my Treo 650, which was really nice and open source GPL.
On the N95 I've tried Best Safe, Handy Safe, SplashID and a couple of others including a free Java one. Handy Safe and SplashID have Windows desktop programs, Handy Safe syncs really well over bluetooth. However I use Linux so the usefulness of these programs was mainly just in importing the csv I'd previously built, SplashID worked best with importing options. On the handheld Best/Handy safe are very simple and look good. SplashID is my favourite though, lots of fields and nice random password generator. The only drawback with SplashID at the moment (and it's a biggie) is that there is an incompatibility with the N95 specifically. When you set your master database encryption up and choose a password, the application crashes when you try and load it. This will be fixed in the next version apparently, though they say it can take quite a while with the symbian approval process. For now, I set the lock on my handset with a PIN, hopefully this will deter the casual snooper. |
