Talking Boingo launches worldwide Wi-Fi access

Boingo launches worldwide Wi-Fi access for selected Nokia mobile devices
October 17, 2007

Boingo Mobile enables unlimited access to thousands of hotspots for one low price;
Boingo's broadband Internet access optimizes multimedia experience on handsets

Los Angeles, CA, USA - Boingo Wireless Inc., which provides access to the world's largest network of Wi-Fi hotspots, today announced that Boingo Mobile is now available for selected Nokia mobile devices. With the addition of Boingo Mobile, selected Nokia handsets and Internet Tablets can automatically connect to Boingo's network of tens of thousands of hotspots across the globe for only USD 7.95/EUR 5.95/GBP 3.95 per month.

Owners of compatible Nokia Wi-Fi enabled devices -- including selected S60-based smartphones and Linux-based Internet Tablets -- can download and install Boingo Mobile, which enables roaming access to the world's largest network of public hotspots. The Boingo software identifies Boingo-enabled hotspots and automatically authenticates users with their Boingo account.

"Millions of Nokia customers worldwide can use Boingo Mobile to effortlessly connect to Boingo's hotspot network, allowing them to enjoy bandwidth-intensive applications at blazing-fast speeds," said Dave Hagan, Boingo president and CEO. "Boingo Mobile simplifies the connection process and eliminates the cumbersome task of navigating public Wi-Fi walled gardens."

"This agreement reinforces Nokia's commitment to become an Internet driven experiences company - offering not only great devices but also exciting services around them," said Nigel Rundstrom, vice-president, Nokia Multimedia. With the introduction of Boingo Mobile software and service on selected Nokia S60 devices and Nokia Linux-based Internet Tablets, consumers now have an affordable, unified Wi-Fi roaming experience across the globe that is extremely easy to use."

Today's announcement is the result of the collaboration between Boingo and Nokia, the world's leader in mobile handsets. The availability of Boingo Mobile on selected Nokia Wi-Fi enabled devices represents the successful realization of a mutual vision to deliver a robust multimedia experience on mass market mobile devices.

Availability & pricing
Beginning today, Boingo Mobile is available as a downloadable application via Nokia Download! on the Nokia N95, N80, N80 Internet Edition multimedia smartphones, and at Don't Just Go... Boingo! for selected Wi-Fi enabled Nokia S60-based devices.

At the beginning of November, Boingo Mobile will be accessible via Nokia Download! on additional selected Nseries smartphones as well as Eseries smartphones; via the Tableteer site on Nokia N800 and N810 tablets; and via Boingo's website at Don't Just Go... Boingo!.

Boingo Mobile subscribers pay a monthly flat rate (USD 7.95/EUR 5.95/GBP 3.95) for unlimited high-speed Internet access at thousands of hotspots worldwide, including airports, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and convention centers. For a limited time, customers who sign up for service will receive the first month free.

Talking Do not use boingo, it's a scam! They steal money out of my account.

DO NOT USE BOINGO, IT'S A SCAM!
IF YOU USE IT, YOU CAN KISS THE MONEY ON YOUR
BANK ACCOUNT OR CREDIT CARD GOOD BYE.

I live in FL, but "Bogus" Boingo Wireless is based in South Santa Monica, California. I wrote the attorney general there and asked him to investigate Boingo business practices. I've also filed a complaint with the FL state attorney and the CA Better Business Bureau. That's not all, I am on a mission. I bought IhateBoingo.com / I am currently working on the website. Boingo needs to be exposed, they are conducting the same business practices that Blockbuster had attempted and looked where it took Blockbuster. If you do a search online, you'll see people complaining about fraudulent charges from all over the world. They'll give you access alright as long as you give them unlimited access to your bank account. Here is my story:

I was on vacation flying from ATL (Atlanta) to CDG (France). Since I was going to arrive to France late, I needed to contact my hotel and the car rental agency to let them know that I would arrive late. Unfortunately I had no way to call, my only option was through the Internet. When I fired up my browser, one of the option was Boingo = Bogus. I thought I sign up for just a month – a month later I was charged for another month. When I called to cancel the service, I was on hold for almost half hour. When I finally reached someone from customer service, she was very unhappy with me because I was canceling the service. The last monthly charge was on 6/15/09. I had sent an email to them instructing them to cancel the account and refund the $9.95. I got an email back saying please call customer service to cancel. To make a long story short customer service failed to refund me the $9.95 even though I have only used their service once. Boingo just made the biggest mistake because I will let the world know how sucks their service is. I enjoy demolishing greedy companies like Boingo. I was a big advocate when Blockbuster decided to sell movies to customers if they didn’t return them without making customers aware of the charge beforehand – that has resulted Welcome to BLOCKBUSTERVICTIMS Online . I predict that Boingo will go out of business pretty soon if they continue on this path. The service itself is a mith, they are doing the same greedy things that several companies have tried and continue to do until someone like Math and others say enough is enough. It’s good that they monitor blogs, but I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up – soon the internet will be flooded with hating Boingo Wireless website and I’ll be the first one to put one up and report them. Bogus Boingo, you are in for a fight – see you on ihateboingo.com and how about Bogusboingo.com GREED MY FRIEND, IT WILL TAKE YOU NOWHERE.

Be Warned! There have been posts stating that after installing 'Boingo', some users have found it very difficult, if not impossible, to fully uninstall it!

Not intentionally hi-jacking, but it seems appropriate to offer an alrernative if this app is not all it's meant to be.

The FON community is still growing daily and if you have BT Broadband, you are alreay part of it.
What does this mean? In return for (safely and securely) sharing out a portion of your home broaband (wifi), you get to use other sharers' wifi for free at 100's of thousands of hotspots (possibly millions by now), not just airports, but also in the high street, in residential areas, cafe's... The list is endless and growing...

And there's a S60 logon client.

This Boingo seems small by comparisson.

It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

Thumbs down

Hey All,
I have seen this application in the applications menu of the Nokia N97. I accidently clicked on this application yesterday and ever since then it has been causing my hassle. It added a protected WiFi connection to my list of Internet connections, without my consent and now i am unable to remove it. I tried to delete Boingo completely however this is impossible as the symbian OS seems to be protecting that as well. This wouldn't be an issue if it could stop it trying to connect to the WiFi connection it created, but I get error messages ever few hours saying it can not connect.

It would seem a lot of people are having this issue or issues similar to this and I would like to know if anyone has had this and resolved it with anything other than a complete reset or format and I am trying desperately to avoid this.

I will keep you posted if I find any way to fix this, until then any solutions or even ideas are very welcome and appriciated. Maybe Micky could do a post on it for the homepage, might make them get their act together!
