Fonts! Now everyone can do it!
Fonts.. Alot of you will have never ventured into the unknown world of changing the fonts on your phone - And I don't blame you!
Up until now, sweet, young Darla Mack has compiled and provided us with (probably) the easiest guide to follow when it comes to fiddling around with them.. And I do mean fiddling - That's a big page of instructions that still take quite a while to read and comprehend But try this on for size.. ;D 1. Download Download FontRouter LT, then sign it (Thankyou sp00k for the tutorial) and install it! !Application MUST be installed onto memory card! Also note that this application will not show in your applications folder - It is used automatically and internally by the phone 2. Find a font Any .ttf fonts can be used but please note that some fonts are not 100% compatible - You will end up with blocks for unrecognised characters etc. but having a play around will do no harm 3. Apply (This is the easy bit) 3a. Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and select 'Mass Storage' mode 3b. Create a 'fonts' folder in the 'resource' directory of the memory card (E:\resource\fonts\) 3c. Copy your selected .ttf file to the 'fonts' folder (E:\resource\fonts\*.ttf) Now unplug your phone and power it off then on again and BOOM! You're in fontsville! Very clever little program, this FontRouter - It saves ALOT of time and I hope you can all enjoy the love of customised fonts with its help ;) WARNING: N95 8GB users will NEED to use this method as using the 'Copy and rename four files' method WILL render the Data Transfer mode unusable - The fonts end up being used every time the phone boots up, which makes them unremovable and causes a loop in which the flash memory cannot be accessed via data transfer mode Instructions for changing the font Once you have installed a font, Data transfer/Mass storge mode is not possible due to the FontRouter application using the memory card/flash memory. Use these methods to regain access and change the font.. N95-1/3/5 users (With memory card slot) Method 1 Use a card reader! Simply take out the card and straight onto your PC to access the files and folders needed with no restrictions. Reinsert the card into the device after placing a font and restart the phone - Simple! Method 2 1. Turn off the phone 2. Take out the memory card 3. Turn on the pone 4. Reinsert the memory card (After the phone is fully booted) 5. Full access to the card in Data transfer/Mass storage mode is regained! After placing a new font, simply restart the phone to display it N95-2/4 (8GB version) users (Without memory card sot) 1. Open the native File Manager (Menu -> Tools -> File Manager) 2. Find the file E:\FontRouter.ini 3. Move the file to a different folder on the memory card (Options -> Move to folder) - Any folder will work for this 3. Restart the phone, and you have full access to Data transfer/Mass storage mode again After replacing the font, move the FontRouter.ini back and restart the phone. Your new font will be displayed :D Last edited by Gizmoratty; 02-07-2008 at 01:43 PM. |

Part Two (For the advanced/fussier types)
FontRouter LT was not originally made for the purpouses I have just laid out, but infact for editing the viewing of fonts already installed on the phone! You will notice that after installing FontRouter LT, a 'FontRouter.ini' file will appear in the root of your memory card - Do NOT edit this unless you know what you're doing But for the benefit of everyone else, grab yourself an s60 text editor, or copy the file onto your computer to edit it there.. Open the file and you will see a short page of jibberish - Editing this jibberish will change the way your fonts are displayed on the phone. Now there are alot of combinations and explinations as to what you can do here (Or more than I can be bothered to list anyway), so I will give you a recommended setting from many users: Force to enable anti bitmap type for TrueType fonts. ForceAntiAliased=4 ForceAntiAliased = 4 Fix font metrics (especially necessary for East-Asian language fonts) Fix font metrics (especially necessary for East-Asian language fonts) FixFontMetrics=1 FixFontMetrics = 1 Fix character metrics automatically (for characters not fit the font metrics) Fix character metrics automatically (for characters not fit the font metrics) FixCharMetrics=1 FixCharMetrics = 1 (Just change the number values on each of the settings) Now either save the file (If edited on the phone) or copy the newly saved file from your computer back onto the memory card, overwriting the old file This particular setup, will allow ease of legibility with small fonts But like I said, there are many more, so google it or something ;P |

Theres a much easier way, just plug your phone via usb cable and make a folder called 'Fonts' in 'Resources' and paste the font in.
This only goes for fonts that are for the N95,other wise you have re-name them to nohindisnr60 nohindissb60 nohinditsb60 |

That's what I have just explained in my first post, but you're saying you do not need the FontRouter application? How else are the fonts linked to the device?

Hmm weird :S
I'm sure there's a logical explanation somewhere - I've definitely never seen any reports of straight forward compatibility like you say Mr G So if anyone else would like to input on this, and fancy trying it out - Just placing fonts in e:\resource\fonts\ first, before installing anything, would love to hear about it :D |

I just made the folder and stuck the font files in it. Reboot the phone and I see the shiny new font. FWIW I used a couple of fonts from Vista. |
