Mobile Web Server Extensions
Overview
Nokia Mobile Web Server Extensions are applications utilizing Nokia Mobile Web Server technology. My Mobile Site Widgets My Mobile Site Widgets is a set of widgets visible on your PC (Windows or Mac). With these widgets, you can view the contents of your mobile phone and initiate certain operations like SMS sending or call initiation over a secure HTTPS channel. The widgets run on Yahoo! Widgets engine installed on the PC and Python scripts running under Mobile Web Server provide the functionality on the mobile device. The widgets are polling the phone regularly to update the presented information. User can set the update interval in the widgets preferences window available in the right click menu. Download and install Download and install Phone: 1. Download the Mobile Web Server software and sign up for a domain name for your mobile here 2. Download My Mobile Site Widgets (.SIS, 46 KB) and install it to the same location (Phone or Memory Card) as Mobile Web Server 3. Ensure that you have started your mobile web server (Options | Start server) 4. We recommend setting the Access Point to fixed value in the Mobile Web Server Settings PC: 1. Download and install Yahoo! Widget Engine from here 2. Download My Mobile Site Widgets zip file and extract the actual widgets to My Widgets folder or any folder you like. (If Consolidate Widgets is set in Yahoo! Widget Engine preferences, then the engine automatically moves the widget files to My Widgets folder during the first start.) 3. Double click any .widget file to start the application Setup of widgets: For each widget, type your Mobile Web Server account name and password into the Login window and click the Login button. In My Mobile Site Phone Picture Frame widget, enter the Server address and account information in the preferences dialog. Each widget starts uploading the information from the phone at startup. It is also possible to start the upload manually by selecting the “Refresh” command in the right-click menu. Full introduction from Tommi @ Beta Labs |

Display it, control it and manage it all from your PC desktop. Seperate little windows for each functions give you the nice option to customise what you do and do not want plastered all over your desktop :P
I'll give it a full run for it's money (Metaphorically, as this is obviously free) later, but it seems great from the description! |

I might just have to do that. After I asked I decided to read (rare occurance) and it seems quite impressive with what you can do with all of it

ok so I got this installed and added all the widgets. Took a little while to get everything set up but this is just fabulous. If they had a way to make calls through it it would be insane. I get zero service in my building at work so I'm gonna see if I can get this set up and leave my phone in my car. For free it's definitely an amazing little app.

Only problem I've encountered so far, is with the address book. For the SMS widget there is no scroll bar, so you can't select who you want to send to. For the call widget theres a load of random numbers in the address book, before you see your contacts.
For those Vista users amongst us that don't want to install Yahoo Widgets and would rather have them in the Vista Sidebar, give this a converter a try: Download Amnesty Generator 0.6b - Amnesty Generator - Easily convert millions of web widgets, games and videos - Softpedia I've just installed it. Will report back whether it works. EDIT: Ok tool doesn't work like I'd expected. Still on the case. Must be a .Widget converter out there. Last edited by Logan; 01-30-2008 at 12:18 PM. |

Oh good job mate! I'm not on Vista so I can't get involved with it, but that sounds like it would be very useful for those who do

ok so I just realized that there is a call widget, called my house line and it seemed to pick up the microphone from my laptop but I couldn't hear anything on the laptop speakers. Anyone tried this more extensively?

Darn. Apparently the difference between a widget (Yahoo) and a gadget (Vista) is one is in XML and the other is HTML. Without a complete decompile and rewrite yourself, its impossible to do it using an automated application.
Gah. Why couldn't Nokia have made Vista gadgets!? I hate installing Yahoo crap on my PC! |
