    EarthComber [US ONLY]

Earthcomber[US only] turns an ordinary cell phone into a personal radar. It's the FREE way to find all the things you care about nearby – instead of tapping, tapping, tapping in a search box.

You can use Earthcomber as-is, anonymously, to find the most popular things in the most common situations.
But, you can also personalize Earthcomber to look for the special things and people you like, wherever you go in the US.

Earthcomber | Find all of your personal favorite things anywhere for FREE

i installed this before but didn't use it or i just ignored it. seeing this thread made me open it up again and it's a pretty cool software. it's like having points of interest and it also gives you driving directions. i would suggest this as i am liking it now. it's pretty useful.

i didn't play around much on it before. you could try it again and see if there's any difference. it finds restaurants, shops, etc. from your location through gps and it gives the details of the restaurant (for example the address and phone number and has the option if you want to call or get the directions).

Our first version was...challenging. But we kept on keeping on, and it's quite decent now, although we are keeping on with the changes (look for that "Update Available" when you fire it up.)

Here's the low-down: If you have a 95 and a GPS signal, cool. Now all you do is play in that second tab to look around for the things you like. They're in sorta default themed lists that make sense, but you can customize (that's hard now, requiring a trip to our old website. We're changing that in the next month or so to do on the handheld).

Anyway, whatever you open up in the way of keywords, EC will keep that in an active queue of things you like (it assumes) and will automatically search for that anytime and anyplace you have Earthcomber running. Net effect: you don't have to keep repeating yourself in a search box. You basically tune it into your tastes just by using it. Which means you can find lots of favorites including in places where they happen to be in range but you might not have thought to look.

It's all local real-world, not web pages.

Lastly, there's a buddy-finder we call "My Peeps" so you can - for free - keep up with your friends no matter what carrier they're on, or even if they're on a laptop. You can invite via email or Earthcomber ID. We'll improve that soon, too. And add live messaging that goes across platforms (so it's not just SMS).

Anyway, please play, and give us feedback. We're always dying for feedback. You can get the unsigned app at mobile.earthcomber.com, or if you want it signed, download Earthcomber from the Download! app that's built into your 95. And please pass it on to anybody on any phone - we have a mobile browser that works the same way but doesn't have GPS (you can set that easy, tho). Just send them to mobile.earthcomber.com for either the app, or the WAP link.

Glad you're likin' it so far. ...Jim

ok so here's my quick write up since we all love write ups more than having to try it out on our own. I only tried it for a couple minutes on lunch and will update later

I used the option to download by going to the mobile.earthcomber.com site on my phone, quick and easy install.

The first thing I noticed is that the UI is very clean and nice looking. VERY intuitive to use and it doesn't require searching around for trying to figure out how to do anything.
GPS seemed to get a lot very quickly
The different sections are tabbed and very easy to switch between the different sections.
Finding things was very easy, you go to the second tab and pick a one of the selections you are given and it opens up to a rather large list. Found the pizza place I was going to and listed it first (I was rather close).
Not sure if this was on purpose but after I got my food I looked up Pizza again and it didn't list the place I was sitting in front of, it may assume duh you are looking at it.

Color and menus are easy on the eyes and inputs are easy to get to and enter things into.
The lists of things to find seems VERY extensive and so far it's accurate.
I sent an invite to Dayene so we'll see how the 'peeps' friend thing works later.

overall it seems like a great little app and I would suggest anyone in the US try it out, IT'S FREE

cool I'll have to flip it on when I go on lunch today and check out some more stuff on it. I was right over where 15 and 80 meet, not sure if it just gives you the GPS coords or an actual lovation

EarthComber is like MapQuest on steroids! My earthcomber name is GadeTerbob.

I think it eats almost as much of my bandwidth as Google Mobile Search!!
